I am so grateful to have had my stitches out Thursday as they sure were pinching. Taking it one day at a time as I continue to heal and the pain goes will subside.

That is great news, Debbie! What other movies do you have on deck while you're recovering?
Nov 22- mixed feelings on this one, but I think gratitude for good Samaritans and responsive police wins the rock, paper, scissors battle over my other feelings... Over the years, Fallon has built up to an independence quest of walking our tiny, elderly mini husky around the "big block." It is a 15 minute walk around 2 elementary school and one community center campus. A "long" walk and along a somewhat high traffic surface street, but with few tricky street crossings, people generally vigilant for kids, and one she and I have been plodding around from stroller to toddling to balance biking to walking the dog for years. Generally, it is uneventful and she comes back feeling proud of herself and her growing independence doing stunts like cleaning up dog poop all on her own. But yesterday didn't go as planned. She says when she passed the bus stop, the bus driver stopped to ask her where she was going. This seems to have inspired another driver to follow her and question her. She did everything right-- giving her my phone number (grr phone for screening the call) and explaining her route. She says she couldn't cross a small alley because "there were cars" (the questioning motorist?) and she started crying. A police officer showed up. She followed his instructions and got in his car. At this point, I am low-key worried, gardening along our sidewalk on the look out for her because she is a few seconds behind schedule (but she has gotten so upset when I pre-emptively jog the block backwards to check on her). The motorist continued around the block, told me my daughter was with the police just around the corner. !! So we eventually straighten everything out with him and his two more cops that pull up to support. I'm grateful that if there had been an issue, there are people who feel moved to help my kid. I'm grateful it was a slow enough crime day that police could respond right away... Even if there really wasn't a real problem to respond to this time. |

Oh my goodness Chris I bet when you saw the police car for one second your heart skipped a beat. Thank goodness for good neighbors and our guys in blue who were watching out for Fallon whether she needs it or not. Happy Sunday.

Nov 23 - Chip drop. While we were out of town two summers ago, MIL surprised us by massively weeding our over grown side yard by hand. It looked amazing, but overnight, the weeds started to reclaim the space. A few years before this, our other MIL had used a service called Chipdrop to secure a massive pile of arborist woodchips. This keeps the chips out of landfills and saves arborists the drive and dumping fee. Win-win! Now they cover our area and March 2024, a crew was able to maneuver their truck up our driveway and deposit a load. I burned a lot of calories whittling my abs in the side yard "gym" shoveling and barrowing mulch. It did an amazing job suppressing weeds and helping extend the impact of our irrigation, now when we dig, the trowel comes up full of worms. Since the pile is almost leveled, I am thinking about considering calling Santa and his sleigh again...

Nov 24 (are we already this far along in the month?!) Grateful for Serendipity. Last year, Fallon asked Santa for a jumping spider. Stumped on where to procure such a creature or how to keep them responsibly as pets, they didn't make the cut. Yesterday while rearranging the house plant jungle, Fallon trapped something I've been calling, "wolfie, wolf spider," but on closer scrutiny in her insect ID book, she concluded it was Phidippus audax, the daring jumping spider! She detained it in a sprouting jar for an afternoon before returning it to the wild. Thanks, Santa!

11/25 - He also brought a singular hopeful bloom on a Thanksgiving/Christmas cactus I was pretty sure I had killed with neglect!
