Guess I'll have to check my e-mail and the main forum LOL! I applied for some too. Way to go Debbie! I hope you put a picture of your macrame with your badge application so I can see it on the main forum!

Adding your 4 now in case I get side tracked before I get back here :)

I love the flag, Debbie! I'm curious - do the cats use their's? My cats would tear it up as a toy, but they're outside cats. It's so pretty there's no way I'd give it to my cats LOL!

I earned 3 badges - Beginner bibliophile, and beginner & intermediate origami.

Adding 3 to the total.

I know Chris has earned some also, but I'll wait to add hers until she puts them on here. I just want to say what a great start to the year everyone! We have earned more than one badge a day for January. Let's see if we can do it again for February!

The first time that Merit put Kit in her new chair she started rocking it and Kit didn't like that! Merit also swapped out the fancy cushion that I thought she'd like and now Kit does enjoy sleeping in there. Brad thought it needed some kind of feather hanging down inside so she'd have something to play with. Merit vetoed that idea. We think that Brad may have been some kind of cat in another life...

That's funny! Maybe his spirit animal is a cat :) I'm glad I'm not the only one that struggles with origami. I don't think it'll be something that becomes a new hobby once the badges are done.

Hey sisters, has anyone worked on Each Other 1. Community Service?

I'm curious what areas do folks put in volunteer time? Do you tend to favor one-off opportunities or long-haul commitments?

Currently, my hours are building up helping with kid activities-- Girl Scouts, treasurer for the PTA. It feels like cheating to call this volunteer work because my daughter directly benefits. Previously, I accrued hours helping the Master Gardeners (cooperative extension) but found after expanding the family, the social calendar wasn't flexible enough to continue to stay involved. I am considering helping at the local community garden, public library, or senior center instead. Maybe others have helped out in these places and have some tips?

That's a great one! I remember wanting to help at shelters so badly as a kid but not getting very far in finding options to do that (in retrospect, this might have been a parental bandwidth issue). Now that I've given up my "kid" status, I bet there are some options and maybe they would let Fallon tag along. :)

+1 more badge for the count (Community Service - beginner)

My time is hard to manage in advance so I haven't worked on any of the volunteering badges yet. I think the senior center and animal shelters are a great place to start. I know my aunt really loves cats and already has 3 in her house so she volunteers at the her local humane society to just go in and pet the cats/kittens. I don't think she cleans or anything. I think it's just giving them some love!

I also earned another badge - beginner her story.

Adding 2 badges to the total

woo hoo! I'm working on her story as well. Curious if you get to the last one what you choose for an 1800's title, it seems coverage of women protagonists was more limited, but was thinking about Personal Librarian (assuming the work is more historical than fiction/how much of it happens before 1900) or Prairie Fires for the adult version of Little House.

That raises a good point, if we work at a shelter we might inadvertently expand our pet collection. Lol

I was going to see what my library had to offer the next time I was in there for someone in the 1800's. I'm reading a book now about Audrey Hepburn during WWII. I saw a book last time about Sally Ride - the first female in space from the USA. Might get that one. I'm not familiar with Prairie Fires, but I love historical fiction about homesteading. Would it be similar?

I love that the hunt for good titles has us learning a little about so many other cool chicks... Must look up Sally Ride and I hadn't known about Audrey's war involvement -- I thought she might have been a refugee? I have an adjacent fascination with learning more about Hedy Lamarr.

Prairie Fires got a 2018 Pulitzer in biography, so I think it is less an embroidered history and maybe one of those drier reads with a fat section of annotations at the back about the author of Little House on the Prairie. 640 pages! I hope a good chunk of that is optional appendix!

I started into An American Beauty (Arabella Huntington) to do 1800's, but while the era is right, it is reading *too* fictional, if that makes sense? Like the author needed a novel situation for a romance plot and improvised everything else. Yet in Spanish book club, I find myself not liking Isabelle Allende's work because her historical fiction is *too* accurate and I am worried I will confuse her fictional strong lady protagonists with people who actually existed back in the day and that I will get my history all confused... Feeling a bit like Goldilocks over here! Hehe.
