Just out of curiosity, when do you take down your Christmas decorations? My real tree had to go, it was dropping needles like crazy! In fact, by the time it made it out the door it was 3/4 naked LOL! Other than that, all my stuff is still up. I'm not tired of it yet so I can't say when it will come down.

It depends on how I’m feeling that year. A couple of years ago we left the tree up until the first week of February. Usually through Epiphany. But this year we put everything away last weekend. I miss the tree lights :(

Normally, we have it put away by now but it's been fairly busy since we returned home from our holiday with family and it is still up. JT asked last night what we have going on today and I told him taking down the tree. We don't actually dismantle the tree, we store it in an extra area in the basement. Only the ornaments get removed and put away. I might leave my mantle decorated for awhile just because I like it and it makes the room feel cozy. Most years I take down Christmas but leave up what is more winter like my snowmen, candles, etc.

This is a useful poll! When you all take out real trees what do you do with them? Something like curbside pickup? Cut into kindling? Composted? Looking for more sustainable/zero-waste ideas over here.

Our first real tree went out a day or two after New Year's (dropping needles like crazy too). I used Epiphany as a cue to put away a lot of the extra décor (Advent calendars, stockings, holiday cards). There are still a few ornaments very assertively tied into the monstera I have not gotten around to liberating. Candles stay out as general winter hygge probably through spring equinox.

Most years it's Epiphany but ours is still up and we've decided to leave it up until next weekend. I was up in Tyler all last week and I just got home last night. I want to have time to curl up and enjoy it a little longer. We have a rescheduled Christmas party for my sister's work this coming Friday so probably Saturday it will get boxed up - and quickly replaced with snowmen and Valentines :) I leave a lot of twinkly lights up in the house to keep the cozy feeling.

Our city does recycle trees so we'll take ours to be turned into mulch.

I usually keep our tree up until after Valentine’s Day, but after checking the tree yesterday it will be much sooner than I want as it is drying out. But, I have taken done all the other Christmas Decorations to start making room for my Valentine’s, St. Patrick’s and Easter Displays. I enjoy all this so much. Have a Happy Sunday Wildflowers.

Our tree just gets taken down to the brush pile in the woods.

Laura I love the idea of twinkle lights for valentines. I keep my snowmen out too.

You know it’s a good thread when I have to take notes in order to remember what I want to say! :) Lol. That being said, our real tree came down on the 28th…it was dropping needles everywhere and with inside kitties spreading them around like confetti, it was time. John and I were both fighting flu/cold symptoms so the remainder of the Christmas decor came down Jan 2. The shelves are still bare…as I go from Christmas into snowmen. Snowmen are still in storage but this week I will decorate with them. :)

Debbie K. We still have a tree in our bedroom so the lights are still twinkling in my room of the house! :) We have a garland of white twinkle lights hanging in the open area between our kitchen and living room. I have tied fabric strips on the lights so it’s decor and fun lighting. See the picture below…but please ignore my message freezer front! :)

Denise, as I said, our snowmen will go up this week. It helps make the house less “sad” after all the festive Christmas decor!
Chris…I freaking LOVE that you said hygge!! :) John and I love this time of year because it’s Hygge season! It fits my ancestry perfectly! As for our tree, we will cut it down into pieces and burn it in our outside fire pit. I did see something on Pinterest just today that if you have opossums near you, it can provide safety/cover for them in the winter. These are great creatures that are very good at pest control and they do not hibernate (did not know that). So they will take refuge in the branches. I also saw that you can use some of the branches, cut into smaller pieces to make a home made version of pine-sol. Just put them in a quart jar and cover with vinegar. You could add orange peels if you want too. Then put in a place where you can shake it a few times over the course of 3-4 weeks. Then use in your cleaning! :)

Karen :)
