I finished America's First Daughter, a book about Martha "Patsy" Jefferson. It was an historical fiction but really read like a non fiction book. The authors did a great job with the writing. I learned about about Jefferson and his family...such an interesting man. In some ways, the times were very different than they are today. I would not have wanted to live back then! The advancements in medicine, for one thing. The infant mortality rate was so high...so many women died in childbirth. But as far as politics are concerned, times then sound very much like today...I guess some things never change!
After I finished this one, I started another, called "Jefferson's Daughters". He had other daughters with another woman named Sally Hemings. I didn't get very far into it and decided not to finish that one. After reading the first, the second was sort of repetitive and not as interesting.

Happy to report that I finished A Founding Mother - really enjoyed this book and am so thankful that this America 250 Reading Challenge encouraged me to read it. I just saw that Reese Witherspoon has selected the book for a book club selection (I don't follow that but it popped up somewhere so I checked it out). After reading it, I truly feel like I learned a lot and am glad that others will read more about our founding fathers and their families. I do recommend the John Adams series that HBO produced. I admit to binge watching it - and the book and show were very similar in story telling.

Debbie - I might just have to check out America's First Daughter as Patsy and her family were a big part of A Founding Mother.

Thanks again for encouraging me to read in a genre that I don't normally pick up!
