Happy 4th of July Wildflowers, I am so happy to be celebrating this day and America’s Birthday:-)
How special it is for me to have my family here with us celebrating this happy day and events. We will visit, reminisce, BBQ and have fun making new memories.

| My best Independence Day memory was 1976, the Bicentennial year. My family went to visit my aunt in Falls Church Virginia, just outside of DC. We visited all of the museums and Monuments and of course a huge fireworks display on the 4th. My aunt was married to a retired army colonel, so he was able to get us into a military base across the river from the show. We went early to get a good spot on an hill and took a picnic to enjoy the wait. It was the most fantastic fireworks display I had ever seen! It was a wonderful party all around us, with music, and families and so much fun. The fireworks were reflected in the water also. It was all so magical for this small town country girl. When it was all over, it took two hours to get back to my aunt’s house, which would normally take thirty minutes. In fact, the first hour was spent waiting in traffic just to get out of the military base. It was ok though, because everyone was still in a party mood, windows down, honking horns, playing loud patriotic music on the radio. My twenty year old self was having the time of her life. I will always treasure that experience in our capital city!! |

That sounds like so much fun!
There is a big legal/illegal fireworks culture here in SoCal. Fallon has been checking in at the temporary fireworks stand in the school parking lot across the street, "I have a theory that the closer we get to the 4th, the bigger the discounts..." We have a flat widow's walk roof, so eventually we climb up there and enjoy the chaos of 365* of amateur fireworks displays. But mostly, I hang out in the yard, deep watering our mulch as extra insurance against any wayward sparklers.

The best fireworks I ever watched were in Washing DC the summer after I graduated high school. Like Wanda Sue's experience - it was a wonderful show, but all the people means all the wait in traffic and crowded sidewalks for walking.
We had a cookout with some friends on the 3rd and spent the 4th just chilling. We've been putting in long hours in the hot weather raking and baling straw. Today we celebrated my nephew's birthday early (he's on guard duty for his actual birthday) so we had an extended weekend of fun :) |
