| Not much. It’s the end of summer so I am thinking everyone is busy. School starting, harvesting gardens or just chilling out. That’s me:-) |

| We have been traveling, babysitting the grands when we are home and I'm teaching again as well as another trip coming up. So busy and haven't been able to get on much. |

| I adopted two new kitties this past week! That has kept us a little sidetracked, lol. We have been looking at shelters, but this week one of the feral cats in our neighborhood abandoned her two in the middle of the road. A neighbor saw her drop them and run away, and knew I was looking to adopt. We discovered they already had teeth so I guess mama cat said “I’m done”. The bonus is, they are sweet and cuddly!! Not feral at all, so we are very happy! |
A day hemmed in prayer is less likely to unravel.

Oh fun!!!! Two kittens are always more fun than just one! What did you name them?
It’s been a BUSY couple of weeks around here but is finally slowing down. I can’t believe September is almost halfway over…that makes me kind of sad. I love to savor every day of fall :) |

Their names are Fiona (grey tabby) and Piper (white) aren’t they precious? Not much has happened around here this week except for cuddling. |

Yep, we're finding our rhythm with the first week of the full school schedule load and Jens working the weekend not leaving a lot of time for screens.

So tonight while Kent made dinner I made a Dump Cake to have for dessert. Girls it sure brought back memories of our military life over 40 years ago. For every pot luck, picnic or other gathering with food, one of us wife’s would make and take a dump cake. It was so easy to make, it was inexpensive to make, it was good and a casserole dish fed many. And of course everyone loved it and never got tired of it. So, I decided to make one after not making one for many years. It smells good and I know it would be yummy. I just wanted to share that with you all. Just because:-)
I made it with cherry pie filling and a golden butter cake mix. I would normally put a can of crushed pineapple over the top but I did not have a can. Next time!
Do any of you girls make dump cake? What fruit/fruits do you all use? |

Hi Debbie, here you go:
9x13 Casserole/pyrex dish greased with shortening
Bake in a 350 degree oven 40-50 minutes, the entire top should be bubbling.
In this order:
2 cans of cherries
1 can of crushed pineapple on top of cherries (optional).
1 box of golden butter yellow cake mix or just a box of yellow cake mix. On top of fruit.
I stick of melted butter poured over the cake mix.
Bake. It is just so yummy.
Not all fruits go together with this cake but the cherries and pineapple did. Or just use cherries.

Oh my goodness! Those kittens are so cute!!! We have a few tabbies but no white ones. It's so pretty! I'm so glad you took them both and that they're not crazy like their mama.
Thanks for the recipe Debbie - I've never made a dump cake either but it sounds easy and delicious. Do you use pie filling or cherries in water? And do you drain the pineapple or dump the juice in? |

| You use cherry pie filling Heather and yes you can drain the pineapple otherwise it would be too runny. I hope you girls like it:-) |

Why is it called "dump" cake?
I've been collecting "kitchen sink" recipes-- things that are really flexible about what extra ingredients or substitutions, so you can add "the kitchen sink" or whatever you have on hand... Granola and whatever dried fruit/nuts you're trying to use up, "perpetual soup" and whatever non-cruciferous veggies, pizza dough and whatever toppings... Maybe "dump" cakes work similarly? |
