Posted - Jul 13 2008 : 9:41:21 PM My neighbor grew some gorgeous 8-12 foot tall sunflowers to shade his garden. He very generously shared with me the head of one of them, full of seeds, so that I could plant them to shade my garden. I am not planning on using them until next Spring; is there a special way to store them so they will 'keep' well?

Posted - Jul 20 2008 : 6:03:40 PM awesome that you are saving them. !! the sunflower heads are so popular with our local wildlife that if I dont run out there to save one for myself, they are gone in a few days. |

Posted - Jul 20 2008 : 3:03:02 PM Seeds are supposed to be kept in a dry, dark, cool place. I put mine in labeled envelopes and keep them in a basket in the pantry, which is the coolest room in the house. No problems.

Posted - Jul 15 2008 : 11:05:17 AM Thanks! I will probably use my Foodsaver to seal them up until I am ready to plant them! I can't wait to see if the seeds live up to their parents' example!!

Posted - Jul 13 2008 : 11:29:06 PM I'm not sure how other folks store their seeds but I store mine in an envelope and label it by the name of the plant, then all seeds go into either a tin box or a sealed tupperware container under my kitchen sink. Now I've heard of some folks freezing their seeds, but I haven't tried that. I just keep them in a dry, sealed container.
