Anyone ever use clear containers for their house plants?

When my Peace Lily outgrew it's pot and basket that I recieved it in, I needed something to repot it in but every pot I had was either smaller, the same size or only marginally bigger. The only thing I wasn't using was a clear shoe storage bin. So I repotted it in the bin and have been using it successfully for almost 9 months now. I really like it because I can see when the bottom soil is getting dry and I just noticed the first roots have expanded to the side of the container. Now I will get to keep tabs on it as it grows and will be able to see when it has used up the whole container and needs to be repotted. I think I will do clear containers from now on. It's so much fun to see! Like having an ant farm but only with plants!

Alee,
Yes, but outside. Using a clear plastic tub with holes in the bottom, and sand in it for propagating plants. Works fantastic! And years ago I planted in clear bottles. Huge bottles, dirt in the bottom, and put plants in it and they grew out of the top of it. Making a terrarium.
How fun!

I really enjoy it! I think for plants than need drainage you could always drill a hole in the bottom or put a layer or rocks under the dirt or something. I am thinking of transplanting my aloe plant into a mason jar so I can monitor it's roots.
