My SIL was in Europe and she told me she went to a gardening class and that they used the toliet paper rolls cut in half and on the end they cut slits and folded the ends closed. They filled the "cup" with dirt and put seeds in for the gardens. When the seeds grew they planted the whole thing and the gardens were beautiful. This is another cool recycle reuse for the garden that helps the soil.

I just wanted you all to know that since I read this post when it was first suggested I have been dilligently saving my toilet paper rolls instead of sending them out with the recycling. And I can't wait to start seeds in them!

I have a couple of bags of the tp rolls and will definitely be using them this planting season. It is definitely easier to transplant than working from a flat that has been broadcast with seeds.

I saw this in the Grow magazine and have been saving toilet paper rolls for a couple of months now. It makes great sense and I can not wait to try it...

I saw this idea in Mother Earth news last year. It really works great for cucumber, melon, and squash seeds. I just open the bottom to help the roots and plant in garden.

DH has been doing this for years! In fact, one of his biggest joys in life is changing the toilet paper roll, not only in our house, but anyone's house he happens to be in. I constantly find empty rolls in my purse or coat pockets!

Good idea about the tomatoes, also. We don't do that and we did have a small problem with cutworms. Will definitely try the collars next year.

Wonderful idea!! I've just been recycling my toilet paper rolls, now I can recylce them and put them to an actual use.

Toilet paper rolls are great little things. I use them as a collar around the tomato plant stems. Helps keep away the cut worms. Will keep saving them and try the potting cup next spring.
