I am having the garden turned right now. I have never had this done in the fall before. I am going to go get rye grass and get that in the ground later today. It's supposed to rain a little tomorrow.
I finished pulling up the rest of the beets. I got 2 5 gallon buckets. I'll store them in the milk room. It's cool in there. I sure wish I had a root cellar.
I pulled up all the tomato stakes and cages, too. All that's out in the one garden now in greens. I picked some the other day and had them for dinner. Yumm! I love greens.
The garden that has the greens is way too wet from the water line leaks to plow all of it. So I hope he can get at least the far half today.
I really didn't care to have anything done to the gardens. Then it just hit me to get 'er done now while I have some money to do it with.
I am also going to go to the nursery and buy 2 crepe myrtle bushes and some dogwoods and azaleas to plant along the driveway. I'll dig up some red bud (my favorite tree) from Mrs. T's yard. She has tons of them. And they are so easy to grow and very fast. I am excited about doing all this.
We are supposed to get some of the rain from Ida later Tuesday. Up to an inch. It has not rained here in over a week! It's been great.
I hope everyone is having a great time in the gardens this week. Lots to get done and so little time to do it!

Ok, this rye grass ain't gonna happen. I am exhausted! Has anyone ever tried to walk up and down turned over dirt in a garden (well, actually a field) with a seeder straped to your shoulder that's way too long and try to seed the garden? I was stumbling all over and falling and not a happy farmgirl at all. I guess I need a tractor if I'm going to do this ever again. That's about the toughest job I have ever done. I can hardly move. I think I will go shower and put on my pj's and veg out in front of the tv for awhile. Man, farming is hard work, ya'll.

Mary Ann, you sound like you will be really busy doing all that. Do you have one of those bulb planters? I would like to plant some bulbs but we have too many groundhogs and things like that that like them too much. And that's alot of work. Get busy, girl!!
Yes, now I have to strap on the seeder and get out there with the rye grass. I still have tons of darn chickens running around out there, though. There are some in the freshly turned soil right now. I'm afraid as soon as I sow the seeds, they'll scarf them right up. Oh those birds. They are such a neuisance in a garden. Maybe I'll wait til almosr dark and they go to bed then run out there.
I need a break now. I went and got a truck load of hay, too. And i just got it all put up out back in the shed. So I am taking a break waiting on the bus. Then I'll have the granddaughter til her mom gets off work.
Beets grow really good here. I had 2 plantings of them. They do well at the farmer's market here. You should keep trying to grow them,Janie.

woops! Accidently re-sent someone else's reply.
You are so busy! I have 300 bulbs/corms/rhizomes to get in the ground today. It's sunny and nice, only about 55, so I hope to get them all tucked in now instead of my usual last minute routine where I have to use a pick axe to get into the frozen soil.

Hi Kris!
You sound really busy! I love crepe myrtles and dogwoods! think they sound lovely! we tried to grow beets but it just didn't work out. will try again next season with other ideas! thanks for sharing
