Ok, generally I'm a "live and let live" kinda gal but I have a neighbor directly across the street from me who neglects his yard something fierce. He's a younger guy and he never comes outside unless he's leaving in his car. His yard is a tangle of blackberries vines, weeds and matted grass. Once last year, he came out with a big canister of poison and sprayed down the hillside that we share (his side of it), killing off wildflowers (the one thing that looked good in his area) and getting dangerously close to my yard.
I have no contact with these folks (I think he might have a wife, though I've rarely seen her) and when I've tried to they don't answer their door - clearly they don't want to make friends! I thought about sending them a note with some seed packets, saying I had extras and thought they might want them, but that seems a bit too much. What do you think? Any ideas for inspiring my neighbor or should I leave well enough alone.

We don't live in the city limits, unfortunately, but I will check to see what the county rules might be. Thanks!

Do you live within the city limits? If so, see if there is a city ordinance on weeds and brambles, if so, contact your city and give them the address of the neighbor. If they are like Portland, they will send someone out and put a notice up and ask them to clean it up. If they don't then the city will come out and clean it up and charge them. They will not give out your name, it will just come from the city.

.. I am familiar with Puyallup, my daughter lives there. Maybe check with the county and see if there is ordinance or something about yards being kept in an eyesore manner. We have that here (Georgia) in my county.

Yeah, prarierhawk, I think I agree with you. It's too bad. I hate to see a good yard go to waste. :-(

This man probably has no experience caring for anything that grows, so giving them seed packets would just be a waste of time. If he's using poison to kill the one thing that looks good in his yard, that's not a good sign.I think you should probably leave them alone--I wouldn't have anything to do with someone who goes around killing wildflowers. Sounds like he's missing something in the beauty/inspiration dept.
