Posted - May 31 2010 : 4:41:39 PM I am so very excited!!!!
My favorite scent is lavender, and so if my favorite flowers!
The past few years I've been going to the lavender festival nearby. For a long time, I bought my soaps from this lady, but in the last year have been making my own. So anyway, when she has her festival, she sells lavender bunches(cut your own), and the local Kiwanis club sells lavender plants. 2 years ago I bought 2 and we were living in town so they just didn't do well. Last year I bought 2 and thought long and hard about where to plant them, so they would survive our huge snowstorms. I ended up putting one on the south side of the house, close to the house, and one on the west side. These areas are also nice well drained soil. They have got so big, and have tons of buds! I am going to go to the festival this year and buy plenty more plants. I am thinking of putting in a raised bed just for lavender.... As soon as they flower I'll take pics and post them.

Posted - May 31 2010 : 6:52:54 PM I thought I'd lost my established lavender plants this year--I hard pruned for the first time in 3 years. They are thriving right now and I am so relieved!
My lavender plants are surrounded by one of the many picket fences my DH and I put up over the course of 16 years of living here. The plants are close to my turn of the century model T garage (very small!) and they must like the heat that is generated off the wooden clapboard because they, much to my delight, keep coming back! This will be their fourth year and I am soooo looking forward to harvesting this summer.
And the BEES the lavender attracts---
So glad to hear that yours are doing well also!! Wish I had a lavender fest to attend---
