I love to garden - it's where I feel the most in tune with myself, with the world, it's where I can slow down and reconnect with me. Sometimes though, I just don't feel it. Like today - I've been grinding my teeth a lot at night lately, a lot of work stress lately, so my lower jaw is killing me. It's been raining so much the ground is too wet to really work, which is my last project in order to plant corn and zukes, so I've been bummed out being stuck inside. But today is a pretty nice day, so I got myself outside and found.... two dead rodents - too big for mice, don't think they are rats but don't want to look that close, maybe drowned voles? and a bunch of cat poo (soggy because of all the rain) in the beds I need to weed. Yuck!!!! And now I just don't feel it anymore......

Amy Grace, I am really having to make myself do anything in the garden right now.It's too hot and those darn weeds hurt!

I've noticed lots of birds this year, more than I usually do. I'm not sure if that is related to the rain or not. Maybe more worms? Anyway it has been nice to see the goldfinches about.

We've been having such rains too in California!We've hardly had a warm day.I still have pansys looking good in pots,usually they wilt in the heat by April.I've planted beans three times.Finally they are starting but it's still been cold.Still making fires in our woodstove.
It is the most beautiful green this year though.
Drought problems are over for this year at least.

Definitely - that is good to hear - I had heard a radio report on the grasshopper situation and was reminded of the devastation it caused the pioneers, so at least all this rain is doing some good. Plus, as my husband likes to remind me, it's good for the trout streams:)
Hoping for some dry-out on Sunday or Monday, my days off, so I can get my tomatoes planted, they look sad and waterlogged on the back porch.

One good thing I've heard about all the spring rain (well there are lots of good things, but this one is extra nice) is that it interrupts the grasshopper's breeding season. We were all set in the NW to get one of the worst grasshopper years in the past 30 years, but perhaps the rains will give us a break on those nasty critters! We live in town so are not able to keep hens or other fowl to keep the ravening hordes under control.
So I guess the good news is, if you can keep your garden going through the doldrum days, the grasshoppers won't be as prolific to munch it to the ground this summer!!!

Me too. It has been raining so so so much. there was even an article in our local paper about how the farmers are grumbling too. Some may lose crops because of the rain. Boo hiss!!
I don't like to garden in the rain. I usually make bunches of containers but have only made two and I did that in the garage. Yesterday was a nice day but rain again today.
I'm feeling it too. MB

It must have been something in the air yesterday because I felt the same when confronted with all the tiny weed sedlings that are trying to take over my tomatoes.

With the weather we've been having in Washington State.... I think my garden is drowning along with my attitude. I have been trying to create something inside because I can't get out in the garden and plant! Of course.... my family is not upset.... baking seems to be my therapy when I can't work outside... so lotsa everything cookies this week!

I know how you feel. Gardening is one of my very favorite things, and it is the one thing I can do to get in a better mood. But every so often I get so overwelmed with every thing that needs doing out there and I just want to give up. Thank goodness that feeling passes. Just hang in there,
