Hi I just did a post showing my currently blooming honeysuckle and mentioned sucking the honey from the back of the flower. Some had never heard of doing that or tried it. How about you?

Yep, I sucked the honeysuckle when I was 7 it sure was good, but I broke out in a rash and was sick for over a week. Mouth swelled up and of course if was summertime and hot so I had to stay in. Now I am almost 60 and showed my twin granddaughters how to do it, It grows wild in the woods, In Texas we consider it a parasite, because if not controlled it takes over. By the way, girls did not break out and neither did I, and it is still sweet. lol.

Melody, how odd that your honeysuckle is so big and doesn't bloom. Is it a vine or shrub? Is it in the sun? Sometimes honeysuckle shrubs get what is called "witches broom" the ends of the branches will look bedraggled like a broom. It is called my aphids that eat up at the ends of the shrub.

My nephew showed me the secret!

Any advice on growing honeysuckle? I have had a plant in a corner by my front porch for about 10-years and it has a nice thick trunk but barely blooms each spring.

That brings back childhood memories of my experiences in the woods of northern Minnesota. Thanx for that.
