Posted - Jun 24 2010 : 10:18:25 AM Here'z a photo of my wee garden here in northern Wyoming. I imagine those of you who live in south already have large plants. Mine are just now beginning to look like Somebody I used several 'junktiques' to make and then frame my garden; I was tickled to find some old picket fence panels to make a windbreak (really important here!).
Today is day 4 of free-ranging for my pullets. They're just now old enough to venture out of the coop. We're having a wonderful summer so far. I hope you are too. Here is a collage of photos I took this morning. Shery...on the prairie MaryJanesFarm 'ranch farmgirl'

Posted - Jun 25 2010 : 06:41:31 AM Teresa, Is there a chance that you could share some photos of your garden junktiques? I'd love to see them. I used 2 parts of a potbelly stove to house a plastic planter - the 'belly' and the ruffled lip. It looks pretty darn cool...well, if you like junk, that is :o) Thank you girls for the kind words. I'm glad to see blogs and such in your signatures, I enjoy virtually visiting other farmgirls.

Posted - Jun 24 2010 : 11:57:35 AM I never thought of useing an old valve cover to plant in, I've used old sinks, a toilet, a very old, non-useable potbelly stove, old bed frames, a old crib and various other throw aways, I just might have to steal your idea, lol. Great pics, thanks for sharing.

Posted - Jun 24 2010 : 10:37:58 AM Not to worry...my baby-hens will soon be moved down the driveway and habitating in their movable coop...soon to be revealed! The picket fence surrounding my garden like a fort is intended primarily as an anti-wind device, BUT...it will keep out chickens as well as wayward cows & horses & cats & dogs! When I had chickens years back, my landscaping was much more limited - there wasn't much they could bother and my potted plants were on the deck. But, now I've got flowers at the barn, landscaping in the front of the house, flowers all over AND a garden again. I had to devise a gameplan that put the chickens a safe distance from growing things. A coop on wheels was my solution. It'll be far from the house. Later, I'll park it next to the barn when fall & winter arrive so that I can 'plug it in' for light and a heated water bowl. They can free-range around here by then and not lay waste to my beloved green things. The coop has a hitch and I'll be able move it with my golf cart, the 4-wheeler or my truck. It is big enough to house 12-20 hens and I have 10. ~ shery
