My hubby and I planted some rhubarb two years ago and we were thrilled to find our plants growing so large. However its almost July and none of the stalks have turned red yet. Are we doing something wrong?

I live in West Texas...maybe it just doesn't like the climate?

Any thoughts?

It usually still tastes the same! Don't add any red food color cause it just turns a reddish brown yuck!
You could add some strawberries though.

Age only matters if you are wine or cheese.

I don't know what is going on with this. Wild rhubarb? I guess everything once was wild? I might try baking with this..but green rhubarb pie...ugh.

I didn't know there was rhubarb that wasn't red! I remember one time my hubby and I found some rhubarb growing and thought we'd take some and make pie...turns out it was wild rhubarb...which doesn't bake into a pie very well at all. ;)

Thanks for your reply. I'm sure disappointed that it isn't red. I've had rhubarb in pies and other things all my life and I love it. Can't imagine a green rhubarb pie. Oh well.

Not all rhubarbs are red. Some of them are mostly green-usually not as sweet either but not always the case. It is still rhubarb. I think maybe it's the Valentine one that is mostly red. There might be another one now but I can't remember the name.
