Posted - Jun 27 2010 : 12:45:24 PM Oh my gosh! I have thyme that is spreading like crazy and I love it. But, last year and now this year it seems that the flies love it, too! I thought maybe my cat left a mouse there last year, but they are back with a vengeance! Didn't seem to be bad until I let some of it flower because we went out of town a few days. Could that be it? Has anyone else had this problem? I'm going to "prune" all the flowers off and will let you know if this works.

Posted - Jun 30 2010 : 06:55:03 AM i use the pennies in clear gallon bags with water. i double the bags and use freezer bags for this. i am putting them in the barn entrance and into the house also. it seems to help. the fly has lots of eyeballs. it sees the bag as a big bug with eyes. they avoid the area. we have a cafe on the coast serving seafood. they have the bags hanging off the ceiling and out by the outdoor tables. a lot of bags but NO FLIES with all doors and windows open and food all over NO FLIES. just a thought happy days sherrye

Posted - Jun 30 2010 : 06:47:56 AM I talked to a friend of mine about the flies. She swears that putting 5 pennies in a quart size ziploc bag with water and zipping it shut will help repel them. She has a bag by each door and it does seem to be helping! I'm going to try it. Pruning the thyme helped, but I hate flies as much as earwigs! Eeeeeew!

Posted - Jun 27 2010 : 4:47:33 PM I hate flies! They are all over the place. I just thought it's because I have all these animals and the stuff that goes with them. I have thyme and will have to go see if there are flies on the plants now.
