Posted - Jun 28 2010 : 09:43:04 AM I picked up a copy of this fun little paperback at a used book store. Written in the early 70's, it is a compilation of articles from Organic Gardening Magazine over the years. No pictures or anything, just lots of anecdotes of her gardening adventures, successes and failures, as she bucks all the experts and does her own thing. It is fun, funny and gives me a much more relaxed, laid back feeling about gardening. If you can find a copy, grab it...it is priceless! Happy Gardening to all!

Posted - Jul 03 2010 : 12:11:17 PM There are several more Ruth Stout books in publication and they're all very helpful. I converted to her year-round mulch method several years ago and it really works! My weeding and watering chores have been cut dramatically. The only thing I changed from her recommendation was I use straw mulch instead of hay. Hay would sprout after a rain and I would have to pull out all the little sprouts. |
