When out in the garden the other day I got a lovely surprise. We bought a house this spring. I knew we would be moving last fall, so I dug up some iris to bring with me. They sat in a closed off room all winter and looked pretty dried up this spring. We didn't move until the middle of May, so I didn't get to plant them. I thought they were all dead. I dumped them on the compost pile at the new house. They weren't all dead! I noticed some were growing when I was out in the garden a couple of days ago. I am transplanting them to our front yard. It has a steep slope that has to be mowed with a push mower. I am going to convert it to flower bed so it doesn't have to be mowed at all.

I feel so blessed! I really missed my iris. They are my favorite. I am kind of an iris addict.

I'm not sure which ones survived. I am hoping the dark purple ones with a scent like root beer. I used to have lots of different colors. I had dark, light, and medium purple. I had lorilei(?) which were small yellow flowers with purple throats. I had some purple with white stripes. I had yellow, some white, some blue, some maroon. I had some siberian iris too.

That was a nice surprise for you. I love iris also. That's my mom's name. Every time I see them I think of her.

I love iris! I am so glad they came back for you. I love driving around Michigan spring/summer time and seeing all the colors of iris...amazing! I have a few I have pulled to send to my Dad and friend in Houston, Texas (both have new houses) and I hope that they will make the journey. What color are your irises?

I have found over my 69 years that it is almost impossible to kill irises, they are also my most favorite flower, and they come in so many differant colors now. I had huge iris beds when I still had my little farm, now I just have a few in pots, but I am going to try adding a few more each year.
