Hello,
I would like to know what to do with my tomato plants that have late blith? And my cucumber plants that have been attacked by squash bugs? I am going to begin tomorrow taking apart my garden and clean up for maybe fall and winter planting. But I dont want to do anything to hurt my fall garden.

Our yellow squash plants did have squash vine borers...the vines looked like they had been eated from the inside out.

Jane, My squash plants didnt make it this yr. But I did see squash bugs on the cucs. My tomato plants are still giving me tomatoes but they are sooo small...and the plants look sooo bad..So I decided to clean up the garden. This yr we planted tomatoes, yellow squash, cucumbers, zuchini and BL green beans....I am not sure what to plant for the fall. I do have collard green seeds...I might try them...Or just take care of the garden until next yr.

I also have late blight and I decided not to spray fungicide this year. I pruned the dead leaves for a while, then stopped doing that also. Can you believe the plants have started growing again. I am still getting tomatoes and the whole plant didn't die. "they" say that late blight can not be carried over in the soil, so you only have to destroy your plants( do not compost) and rotate where you plant next year. Squash bugs will over winter in the soil, so you should try to trap as many bugs as possible- you can try putting a board down and checking- and not plant squash in the same place next year as well. Make sure you have squash bugs and not cucumber beatles or squash vine borers. They are different bugs and need to be removed differently.

Hi Deborah:
Our cucumber plants are looking really bad. I'll have to check to see if squash bugs are on them. My sweet hubby and I have had to pull up our tomato plants about three weeks ago. They were all sickly looking. This year was not a good garden year for us. Good luck with your fall garden. What kind of garden plants did you plant?
