Well the hubs and I made a big pot of cabbage soup yesterday. We harvested, of course cabbage, then potatoes, carrots, and onions from the garden. The celery was not ready yet, so that was store bought.

The day was cool and overcast, so the hubs decided to light the woodstove. Wonderful warmth from the the soup and the woodstove.

The house was so warm and cozy that I felt like baking. I made two pumpkins breads with chocolate chips. My first use of pumpkin for the season. Mmmmm very yummy.

What a great feeling knowing that such a satisfying day came from our own hands and the backyard.

I have never tried pumpkin soup. I did have a stew that was served in a pumpkin before though. It sounds good. Do you have a favorite recipe?

Cathy...That sounds heavenly! We had a wood stove years ago and I used to cook on it and it warmed our house for many years. Lucky you! I can smell the soup and bread and I'm coming up to get some. YUMMY!

Pumpkin anything is my favorite! Ever try pumpkin soup? It's a real hit served in hollowed out pumpkins.

No, it wasn't my pumpkin. I wanted to use up what I had in the cupboard. Tonight the house is filled with the scent of beefstew and popovers. I pulled the first rutabaga from the garden and added that with the other garden veggies to fill the pot. Fall is my favorite time of the year with all the garden produce and cool weather to make you just want to bake all day.

Cathy, that does sound good. Did you grow the pumpkin too? I get Paula Deans magazine and she has several different recipes for breads that you can add things to a basic recipe to change them. They look good. I need to find some pumpkin now!
