I had no luck with anything I planted this year but the pumpkin that rotted and fell off the front porch is going "gangbusters"...take a look at my blog for the pictures....it's a beautiful thing and I feel better now that I will get SOMETHING from my garden this year!

I have to share this funny little story...
My stepdaughter had a pumpkin she cleaned out at her new home last year. Some of the seeds fell off her porch and she soon forgot about it. For Christmas I had given her some orchid bulbs that she planted in the now forgotten place the pumpkin seeds had fallen.
She was so excited when her 'orchid' started to come up and she was so amazed at the size of the plant! One day her neighbor saw her standing over the plant just beaming with pride. The neighbor asked her what she was doing growing pumpkins in her flower bed! She was so disappointed.. she dug up the now giant plant and I planted it in my garden.

Isn't it great! We had 5 pumpkins that presented themselves from nowhere. We didn't plant any last spring. Enjoy!

LOL! 'Reminds me of one of my favorite children's books, "Too Many Pumpkins" by Linda White. You all just HAVE to get hold of it!

We didn't get any pumpkins either - I didn't know there were male and females! We had a TON of flowers but only one fruit started to develop. I think the groundhog enjoyed that one, though!

Oh, Sandra - "It's a great life if you don't weaken" was one of my Grandmother's favorite sayings! Love it!

Enjoy your pumpkins! - Nini

A similar thing happened to my family one year when I was a kid! My dad tossed all of the pumpkin carving scraps into the woods near our house not giving much thought to what he'd done. We lived in Mississippi so the seeds never really went dormant leaving us with over a hundred pumpkins in June!!!

There were everywhere. The street, on our front porch, our really long drive way had vines the whole length!

After that all seeds went into the food processor before being thrown away. Not sure why we never roasted them.

Enjoy your pumpkins!

Funny Sandra.. I had the opposite problem... my vegetable garden did fine, but the pumpkin plants that I started from seed in March and lovingly tending until I could safely plant outside...welll- i got tons of flowers, but just didnt have any females! Oh well- there's always next year!
Love your pumpkins--I've got pumpkin envy

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away..
