Now that my garden is pretty much put to rest for the season I've moved in my winter houseplants after most spent the summer outside.
I got to wondering what someone else might have in the "odd" category.
I've got two vying for first place. A Maternity Plant is a succulent that has rounded leaves and with what looks like teeth. Each tooth starts a baby, up to maybe 15 per leaf. They look like tiny leaves coming out of the bigger one, then the form little hair like roots and drop off to produce new plants.
The other is an Artichoke plant I rescued from my garden. When I planted last spring I found started artichoke plants at a nursery.
They usually don't grow around here because of the length of the season. It didn't produce anything but its so interesting I thought I'd just enjoy it for a while.

Well, good luck . . . my jade plant gets pretty thirsty between waterings sometimes, too!

Hopefully by spring it will be ready for a downsizing anyway, that is if I don't forget to water regularly. After having most of my plants outside for the summer to have the rain help out, I haven't really gotten into the indoor agri-caretaker role again.

That would be a great experiment . . . but would you end up with a strange looking "plucked" plant?? Thanks for the offer, I'll definitely try to remember come spring!

I don't know that it would be of any use to try to send you each a leaf at this time of year. We are actually at normal MN temperature now, which is freezing and I don't know that the mail is kept warm in transit. If you think of it, remind me, come spring.

That sounds so cool. I have a jade plant because when I saw it at Lowe's it reminded me of the one my grandmother had when I was a kid. I'm gonna keep my eyes open for a maternity plant.

We once had the Maternity plant !! We bought it at our plant market where we used to live and it was lovely! So fun to see you can start a plant by just putting the tiny fallen leaves on some dirt and it grows and grows :)
I can't find one here in my area now unfortunately, but will keep a look out. Would LOVE to have one again, thanks for the reminder :)

Susan, the maternity plant sounds SO interesting! I bet my little ones would find it fascinating. I'm going to have to find one!
I don't have anything strange at all. All's I've got is a philodendron as that is all I've ever been able to keep alive inside LOL!
