Posted - Jan 11 2011 : 1:54:11 PM I'm forcing some paperwhites right now and they've just started to bloom, but they just smell awful to me! Every couple of years I give them another try, they're BEAUTIFUL and I love having something blooming in the dead of winter, but OH, they are stinky! The florist told me this last batch smelled wonderful...not to me. Is it just my nose, or are they stinky to everyone?

Posted - Jan 14 2011 : 1:13:05 PM I hate to admit this but I threw my Paperwhites in the compost bin. They smelled like a stinkie litter box! |

Posted - Jan 12 2011 : 07:41:55 AM I thought I was the only one! I love their fragrance in an open area of the garden, but indoors that fragrance becomes a sickening stench! I think a little bit out in the garden gets diluted by other odors and you just get a whiff.

I tried forcing paper whites in the dead of winter several years ago-I had to get rid of them because of the smell-Who'd a thunk something so pretty could smell so bad?

Posted - Jan 11 2011 : 3:17:33 PM I don't like them either. I like to force hyacinths. They smell really nice!
