Someone told me you can grow them in a burlap sack no sun, year round. I want to try this but am confused on some variations I hear about adding dirt etc. for ex. someone said they used tires and kept adding another tire more seed potato's and dirt and making it higher...I am thinking of using burlap sacks inside of small crates and stacking each crate (saving space) and planting seed potato's staggered bin by bin so there is always fresh growth...crates can be planted, dug through, replanted and put at the bottom of the stack. Can anyone follow me or am I crazy?? So confused about this and really want to try to get it started. Any advice would be much appreciated girls! Thanks a bunch!

Well, the topgrowth needs sun, so I'm not sure what they're doing...I mean, they would STORE in the garage, you know, but the leafy topgrowth needs the sun as the baby tubers are developing. Now, if they move the taters inside after the topgrowth dies (which is when you harvest) I can understand. I think you can grow taters in just about anything as long as it's deep/wide enough to contain the developing spuds.

Thank you girls...trying to get the most out of the growing season this year. A coworker had told me they grow them in their garage year round...sounds funny to me, I would think the plant that comes up would be necessary/need sun.
Keep me posted if either of you hear anything else on this topic will you?

Isn't a burlap sack no sun the mess I get in the potato bag when I can't use them up fast enough.
Now I have grown potatoes in bags of potting soil with dirt. and I have grown them in tires with dirt. And I have grown potatoes in burlap bags in a milk crate with dirt but all were out side and in the sun. All produced potatoes but need the dirt to grow and make potatoes.

I think I am following you...Will they grow if you keep them in the dark with NO light? We have a little shed out back, but it has windows, so a little light would come in. I would think they would need a little light to keep growing...just thinking out loud here
