Posted - Mar 23 2023 : 10:14:18 AM Today I planted three milkweed roots in round galvanized tub. First time to plant milkweed for monarch butterflies. Hope they do well and the butterflies find them.

Posted - Jun 30 2023 : 12:38:51 PM I know I am going against the wisdom of when planting herbs in Texas you do it in the fall, but rosemary was back in stock, and I didn't want to wait to order it after it was picked over. The one-gal rosemary plant arrived today, and it is beautiful. Now to keep it alive in 95 degrees. I will re-pot it into a large pot and keep it in filtered sunlight on the back deck until cooler weather.

Posted - Jun 15 2023 : 09:36:49 AM Here in Colorado on Monday, we had a hail storm. The old timers said it was the worst they've ever seen here. So today is a day of replanting. I'm so thankful that God gives strength exactly when needed. Trowels, shovels and seeds in hand, here we go!!

Posted - Jun 04 2023 : 04:02:29 AM Along with planting time, we finally got a bit of rain. A half an inch on Friday. That is the first in 3 weeks at least. Rain makes everything perk up.

Posted - Jun 03 2023 : 11:19:13 AM Up here in Northern Michigan I was working in my herb garden today. You know that saying about perennial plants: “The first year year they sleep, the second year they creep, the third year they leap”? Well this 4th year my oregano leaped and danced and jumped - All Over My Garden!!! (I knew mint could be very invasive but did not realize oregano could be the same - or worse!) I think I pulled out enough to easily stock an Italian restaurant for a year.

Posted - May 24 2023 : 02:46:29 AM Gardening happiness to all. I finally got in my garden last night, for a bit. Then the mosquitoes arrive to carry you away. I did get potatoes and onions planted. So it is a start. Last Sunday we got our oats and hay seed planted. Things are happening.

Posted - May 23 2023 : 10:23:43 AM Today I worked in the narrow flower bed in front of my Yellow Rose Cottage. The yellow 4-o'clocks are coming up. It was like seeing an old friend. Eleven years ago, before I moved to Paris, I had yellow 4-o'clocks and I gave seeds to my sister, and she planted them at her farm thirty minutes outside of Paris. The seeds I planted when I first moved to Paris did not sprout so several years ago Betty gave me some of her seeds. So, the yellow 4-o'clocks have come back to me and I am looking forward to their blooms in the evenings and early mornings.

Michele, I feel the same way. It's also interesting the different types of stuff people can plant and what others can't. I can't tell you how much I wish I could grow pineapple! But I am happy with what I can grow.

Posted - May 09 2023 : 03:42:15 AM Always amazes me the different stages everyones gardens are in. Some have planted, and some getting ready to harvest. Here is WI we are too wet to do anything. It is plenty early too for us. My daffodils are just getting ready to open. The fields are still sopping wet.

My onions are looking good and a few radishes are coming up. Oh, and I'm happy to say my lemon balm survived the winter and is looking good. I wasn't sure if it came back or not. Chives are getting ready to open their pretty purple flowers. Hopefully the peas, beets, and carrots will make an appearance soon :)

Posted - May 03 2023 : 05:22:03 AM After a week of summer temps in April here in the Chicago area May has had a chilly start. I am hoping to start planting as early as next week. They show 70's for the days and 50's at night. Hopefully we are done with the 30's for the rest of the season.
