Have an escape plan for fires!
Call 911 even if a fire seems minor.
Know where your fire extinguisher is .. and how to work it.
Contain flames.
Install smoke alarms on every level of your home.

Posted - Mar 11 2008 : 4:41:06 PM i have a friend who's daughter had TRIPLETS .. they were onely a few months old .. when in the middle of the night .. a rock came flying through their bedroom window. a man driving by their home noticed it was in FLAMES .. and the family didn't even know it! they just had time to gather up their babies .. and dog .. the house burnt to the ground!
a plan is definitely necessary!

Here's another reminder for the "Escape Plan" tip - make sure each family member knows the designated place to meet up with each other OUTSIDE of the house and out of harm's way - that'll be the quickest way to do a headcount and make sure everyone is out.
