Posted - Jan 30 2009 : 7:11:25 PM We just learned today that the CPSC has granted a one year stay of the lead and pthalate testing requirements on the new CPSIA. This is GREAT news for those of us who sell children's items in our home businesses. They will reevaluate the law in a year and hopefully fine tune it so small businesses are not forced to close, but for now, YIPPEEE - we can continue in business as long as we don't sell anything with lead of pthalates in it - which isn't in fabrics or yarn, so I'm safe!!! That year will give us all time to gather certification from our suppliers to show that our products are safe and we can continue to show and sell in the meantime! I was 2 weeks from losing my business - now we have a chance!!! All of our efforts have paid off - how gratifying it is!!

Posted - Jan 31 2009 : 10:37:18 AM That's great! Not only for the businesses affected by this stupid law, but for all the folks who depend on second hand items to survive.

Posted - Jan 31 2009 : 07:14:30 AM That is great news, Sherri! I am so glad all your work paid off and you can continue with your business. And many more businesses will be able to stay open. That's one good thing that's happened lately for this horrible economy.

Posted - Jan 30 2009 : 7:22:20 PM Thank you, thank you! I told me dh, the feeling of accomplishment after working 8 hours a day on the computer, writing congressmen, agencies, fabric manufacturers, yarn manuractures, etc. and the excitement that the process DOES work and that we were able to get the attention of a federal agency was almost as rewarding as the news that my business has gotten a stay of execution for a year!

Posted - Jan 30 2009 : 7:17:32 PM Sherri, this is amazingly good news! Yippee! I am happy for everyone who owns a small business and is touched by this ill-made law. I am hopeful for a sane and logical review and re-vamp of it.
