Posted - Aug 22 2010 : 09:26:16 AM I have stencilled the walls of my upstairs bedrooms and my dining room. I tried to choose timeless designs, so there are no ducks or teddy bears. There is a thistle design in my dinning room. Everyone is telling me it needs to go! But I still like it a lot.
Okay, am I hopelessly out of date? I spent a lot of time doing it way back when, and now when we repaint, my hubby goes up to the stencilling and stops. That is what he is doing today, and my neighbor just came over and smiled and said, your stencilling needs to go. No!!!
What do you all think? Do any of you have stencilling? By the way, I have a house that is compatible with early american design. Chair rails, antique heart pine floors, etc.
I think you can see the stencilling a little bit in my latest blog photo if you enlarge the photo.

Posted - Aug 23 2010 : 04:52:48 AM You are making me feel better.....I love stencilling too, and it seems so real, being done by our own hands. One of my favorite artists, who was Swedish and lived in the early part of the 20th century was named Carl Larssen. He painted the walls of his entire home, and you can find out about him on the internet, I am sure. I just love looking at the paintings he made of his own home and family and farm, and how he and his wife decorated their surroundings.

Posted - Aug 22 2010 : 9:39:00 PM I love stenciling. One of the first things I did in my kitchen when we moved here (after getting rid of the big ugly flowered wallpaper) was to stencil apples around the top of my kitchen walls all the way around (not all red..but red, green, yellow and some will more than one of those colors.) After 8 years I am not tired of them yet. Years ago I did stenciling in almost every room of my house in Calif. I think if it goes with your "theme" and you like it yourself then it is right! I can't imagine not having SOME stenciling in my home.

We live in military housing, so there isn't much we can do with it. I like to stencil since it is easily changed.

Posted - Aug 22 2010 : 09:33:11 AM We just moved into this house and I stencilied the entryway. I'll take a picture later. I think it's fine depending on what you do. Like you said, no 80's design!
