Ok, how many of you use to run home from school, turn on the 'tube' and plop on your bed to watch 'Dark Shadows? Raise your hand!!!
Me Me, I did ... every day...
Here I am 40+ years later and I can hardly wait to watch the (tongue-n-cheek) remake of Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp.....
Ok, I know it's probably gonna be silly but I can hardly wait to go watch it..... hahaha!
Anybody want ot go to the movies with me
?

I was very young when the original Dark Shadows aired but I have watched the all now. I have mixed feelings about the new one. It looks to be more of a spoof/comedy if you will. I will probably give it a try when it is on DVD, but I am not very hopeful. Oh and I love Johnny Depp and most things Tim Burton have done I just worry when they start messing with classics.

Thanks, Kathryn. You answered my question about where Jonathan Frid was. Was it at the 'happening' party? I loved the film and so did my dh. But we just couldn't find Jonathan. I want to go and see it again.

I"ve seen IT, I thought it was a hoot. Jonathan Freid makes a cameo apperance walking into the party toward the end of the movie. I would pay to see it again, it is funny and tounge-in-cheek, so pay attention.

I always rushed home to watch it I loved it. And if Johnny Depp came by I would not care at all if he were a vampire I am going with him what ever form he is in. Cant wait to see the movie.

I don't ever remember seeing the tv show. My husband, myself and 2 young adult daughters went to see the movie last night and we were not impressed with the movie at all. I usually like Depp movies, but this one.... well, for us, not worth the money we spent going to it. It was very sexualized, violent and not nearly as funny as the previews led us to think it would be.

Definitely - a wait for video, if then, movie review. I want to go back and watch the old series now, just for curiosity sake.

Do what you love, love what you do.

Has anyone seen the new version?? Wondering if it is worth a trip to the theatre or if it can wait til it comes out on dvd??
Annika Posted - May 18 2012 : 06:47:51 AM
Oh me me me!!! My parents wouldn't let me watch it, so I'd go over to my friend Marcy's house to do "homework" and watch it I really want to see the remake with Depp, it's going to be fun

I was sad to hear of Jonathan Frid's death...I think he would have been so pleased that "Dark Shadows" still has soooo much appeal!
katmom Posted - Apr 19 2012 : 9:29:40 PM
yes, I saw that he had passed away... and he had, had a cameo appearence in the Johnny Depp re-make of Dark Shawdows.

My dd and I have a date to go see the new "Dark Shadows" movie when it comes out-can't wait! Love Johnny Depp and the trailer looked great! We saw the original "Dark Shadows" movie from 1970 & watch it often-so campy, but so awesome at the same time. I think I might be missing something by not watching the series...it's on Netflix...I'll give it a try!

I am another one who watched it growning up. I have mixed feelings about the new one. I do love Johnny Depp but I am afraid I might be disappointed. I was one of the ones who did not like the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I just have a problem with them remaking some of the classics. I even heard they are remaking The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I guess maybe I don't like change.

Would love to stay a week at Collinwood, spooks and all. My mother hated the show but let me watch it every day. Loved the storyline when the governess Victoria went back in time and was almost hung as a witch but at the last minute...............

Yup! But we didn't race home, for some reason I can't remember now, my older sister and I raced over to my aunts to watch it. But yes, I loved, loved, loved Dark Shadows. One of my biggest disappointments was when they canceled it! As I recall they didn't even let the story line finish up.

I rushed home to watch it too - I'm glad to know I'm not the only one! Can't wait to see the remake.

haha! It's good to know I was not the only one who loved D.S... lol!
Looking back, it was pretty corny... but back then...so Kool!
I have a VHS tape of an episode of D.S...where Quentin Collins is in a dungeony room fighting with this other guy... when you really study the back drops you can see the "stone" walls were a painted back drop! lol!
As for Johnny Depp portraying Barnabus... well I know it is going to be a hoot!
Ok girlfriends,,, let's have a girls day out,,, hit the movies & then Starbucks afterwards to laugh about how funny the movie was! :>)

I'm also one who rushed home from school to watch the TV show. Loved it. Can't wait to see the movie. Love, love Johnny Depp and Tim Burton movies. The two of them are just so awsome with what they come up with.

Count me as another who raced home to watch. Now, between Johnny Depp and Tim Burton, the campy nature of DS, and the fact my husband was also hooked, we will see it the Monday (senior matinee) after it comes out!

You can get all of the episodes on Netflix (gosh how did we live pre-Netflix? HAHAH) I do wonder how vampires went from being so awesome as Barnabas to the weenies they are these days---yuck.
