Hard to believe that we have been on the road for 2 weeks. We've seen so much and have had such quality time together. Some couples need the structure of each day to get along but Rod and I have always done so well together on vacation and to be honest, this is so much time together I wasn't quite sure how it would work out but it has worked out really well.
We went for "one last look" at the canyon and it was hard to leave. Such good memories and Rod got some great pics.
I am a city girl from "back east" so I was totally unprepared for the sites today on the way to Vegas. I thought Arizona was the Grand Canyon and the desert. I had NO idea we would pass through more mountains. At first these mountains looked like the Smokies to me, mountain in front of mountain in front of mountain but then I realized most of them had jagged edges like someone cut them with a knife. Then they changed again to green ground coverage to HUGE dirt piles to dark brown. I believe the mountains were the Black Canyon and the White Hills. Whatever they were, they were wonderful and all so different. One set looked like a smaller Grand Canyon. They were all so breath-taking that I had to pull over to look several times. The glory of these hills brought me to tears. How varied and wonderful our country is.
We got off RT 40 and drove again on the old RT 66 whenever we can. Ate good burgers at a little stand that had been started by the owners father in 1953. It was a crazy place with old stuff and business cards all over the walls, and an outhouse that everyone used-that was also decorated with early 50s bizzare things. RT 66 must have been so wonderful in it's day and I'm glad there are still some parts left of it that we can ride down and see the small motels and fun stores. I'm glad it didn't just "die" when RT 40 went up.
Ah, Vegas. Again, I had no idea it is surrounded by mountains. On CSI they are always going out into the desert. LOL As you drive around the corner you see a "city of lights." I was too tired tonight to drive "the strip" but you can see the lights from our room. So much light and opulence and gaudiness. Have never been here and we are not big gamblers but I am anxious to see things like the light show at the Belliago, and the Italian things at the Venetian, and the white tigers at some place or another. I'd probably never PAY for a show but I am interested in the things we can do for free. Tomorrow we plan to swim in the indoor pool and go to dinner on the strip and loose my $20 bucks on the penny slots. (I'm too cheap to even play nickols if I can play penny slots and once, in Conneticut I played $0.45 and won $600 so now penny slots is all I play.)I think if you took all the money I've ever gambled in my life, it doesn't add up to $600.00, so I'm good. Here's hoping I get lucky. Joey

Good Luck in Vegas Joey- I hope you take some of it home with you in your pocket!!!! I agree- enjoy all of the freebies that are offered- there is plenty to see and do and not spend a red cent! That to me is the best part about Vegas. Money is too hard to come by to just throw it to the breeze. Have fun on the penny slots- you can play for quite a while with your $20.
Safe journey!
Hugs,

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away..

Thanks again for sharing, Joey! I've never gambled. However, I have been to Reno twice and Las Vegas once to see relatives. We stayed at the casino hotels and browsed the casino malls. (couldn't afford to do anything else) Oh, we did eat in a couple of the restaurants. I loved the Venetian!
