Don't know if any of you girls are fans of the Band or Bob Dylan, but I sure am. Give me a song written by Robbie Robertson and sung by Levon Helms and I'm swinging on a porch swing, cold tea or a beer in my hand, lovin' my life. Speaks to the Southern girl in me, the one that wishes she could take life a little bit slower, have time to remember where I've come from.

Rest in peace--give the angels a concert when you get there!

One of my best friends is Levon's cousin. I've heard Cousin Levon stories for many years. He was a beautiful, giving man to the very end. Prayers for his widow will no doubt reach receptive ears.

Janice--your post really made me sad--in a good way--we'll have to get together soon and spin some tunes.
I had heard around Christmas that the cancer had returned--he was in remission for a time and made that grammy winning album in 07 and I was VERY hopeful for his continued health. It's such a terrible cancer (aren't they all) but his loss has really left a void for me. And Rick Danko--wow, what a gift you have.

Oh, no. I didn't know is cancer had returned. I am heartbroken. He was my Missouri farm boy and my hero. I was jut listending to his 'Dirt Farmer' cd on my way home from the farm tonight. In 1986, when he and a version of the Band played here, David was doing security at the Fairgrounds. He came home with a piece of scrap paper on which Rick Danko had scribbled: "May your memories serve you breakfast in bed". He killed himself shortly after they were here. The Band has been the music of my life since Rag, Mama Rag.

Levon Helm died? Wow..so sad. The Band is part of the soundtrack to my childhood!
