After 30+ years as a renter, I'm buying my first house! I'm so excited (and, ok, a lot nervous). I have some mobility issues, so the house had to meet certain criteria---and I wanted a small yard (all I can physically take care of) but I wanted something I could work with---to actually have dirt I didn't buy (ha!) and put in a pot. There are a couple of very cute areas that are already planted but I think some herbs, maybe an okra plant or two, and even a zucchini plant would look just as good!

I really think reading about the various projects you guys do on a daily basis and working on my "farmgirl" skills gave me the courage to make this leap. I mainly lurk on the chat boards but thank you so much for the inspiration.

Deborah, you'll close just in time to enjoy a beautiful summer in your new home-you will probably even enjoy mowing YOUR lawn!!

Thank you everyone for the well wishes! My agent tells me I've gone through the process very quickly but it's a maze of paperwork, approvals, etc... If everything goes according to plan, I'll close on May 21. My first purchase? A lawn mower---I've rented for over 30 years and never needed one. This is going to be a very big change for me!

(And Christine---good luck! After all I had heard on the news, I thought it would be much more difficult to get a loan. Building a good credit score over time really has paid off in this transaction.)

Congratulations on the house. If you do plant a garden, take a picture to show us. I'd love to see what you will do. Enjoy!
