Posted - May 08 2012 : 06:12:25 AM And the sneaky snakes are out in force. This critter showed up on the driveway and was so big we could see it from the house. It was around 5 feet long and 2 " in diameter. He had been eating because there were bumps all the way to the tail and he was really slow. I poked him with a stick to make sure he was alive and not hurt, and he showed me he was fine by coming after me!!! He's a king snake and they are pretty aggressive. So, I took off with a squeal and gave him his space. We leave king snakes alone because they eat the pigmy rattlers and copperheads.

Posted - May 08 2012 : 3:23:33 PM When my youngest son was growing up, he would bring in snake after snake and beg to keep it. Finally, one day I relented and let him put a western ribbon snake into an aquarium. We had friends visiting from back east and one afternoon we were sitting in the living room. You could hear this tiny, high-pitched scream coming from the other room and my friend asked what in the world it was. I explained that my son had caught some frogs and was feeding them to the snake. She hopped up out of the chair and stomped outside to the statement, "I will NOT sit here and listen to something being eaten!!!" I guess we country people are kinda different. :-)

Posted - May 08 2012 : 2:50:49 PM He's an impressive fellow Mary Beth. My family loves snakes. I respect them and appreciate them but like you I just let them go on their way unless they are rattlers. The rattlers are cool too but we are too far from a doctor to let them hang around and they bite our critters too. Your fellow is very cool! Laura

Posted - May 08 2012 : 2:01:11 PM ICK!!! Snakes are definately scary to me, but I understand what you are saying- better to have one that eats the bad ones- and heck- at least he was big enough for you to see him from a distance! LOL Be careful Mary Beth! Hugs,
