Posted - Jul 01 2012 : 07:11:59 AM Hi, everyone...just thought I'd let y'all know I'm getting married! My wonderful man asked me Wednesday night if I would marry him, and I said yes....and then yes...and then yes again. :) We've been together for about 9 months now and I knew it was coming, but not when it did! He totally surprised me! I have the most gorgeous ring I've ever seen...he picked it out and he couldn't have done better!
We haven't set a date yet, but it won't be a very long engagement. He is finishing up work on our house (he bought the house in February) and we'll get married as soon as we can move in. We are both so very happy and excited! Both of our families are excited as well, and I have the greatest future in-laws!
I can't get my pictures to load right, but here's a link to the announcement on my blog, and there are pictures there. http://crazykcreates.blogspot.com/2012/06/news.html

Posted - Jul 25 2012 : 09:36:49 AM Yet another update: We moved our date to September 1st. We're having a hard time finding a suitable venue, and my personal calender decided to go all haywire on me (stress, I suppose...no, I'm not pregnant ;) ) so August 25th would no longer be good at all! Lovely planning kink thrown in there!
I've picked invitations as as soon as we get a location set in stone I'll order those. Things are coming along, albeit a little different that we'd originally planned!

Posted - Jul 17 2012 : 5:13:14 PM We're about 2.5 hours south of Lexington...pretty central, about an hour over the TN line. We're originally from GA, moved here 4.5 years ago. I like it here. ;)
When I called my grandma to tell her the date, she wanted to know what I wanted...not what we as a couple need, but what I wanted. So I told her the only thing I had wanted to do that I wasn't going to have money for is to go buy some pretty frilly stuff from a certain lingerie store. ;)
So, I'm meeting her in Chattanooga next weekend and she's taking me shopping. :) I guess there are worse things than being the only granddaughter, and the first ever on both sides of the family to be getting married. :)

Posted - Jul 10 2012 : 05:44:05 AM Congratulations to you and Jacob! I'm praying for many, many wonderful years together for you. Your ring and dress are lovely. I congratulate you also on not getting caught up in the "have to spend a million dollars on the wedding". This is definitely the place to get lots of ideas on how to make it the day of your dreams and not break the bank. I also love the idea of a road trip for the honeymoon. When we married 41 years ago DH was going to start aviation school three days later and there was no time for a honeymoon. Still haven't taken one. I think I'll suggest that to him Keep us updated.

Posted - Jul 09 2012 : 8:08:31 PM Ok, my brother is home so I got a little dressed up this evening. ;) And it's not like I can put these pictures anywhere else!!! So I'm just going to have fun with them here! I'm still trying to find a hoop...I'm standing on a stool in these pictures.

I'm being silly messing with my veil here, but it shows the wrinkling in the middle...I'm thinking the lady who alters it will be able to fix that. I'm also going to find some underthings to smooth everything out. ;)

My bro unhooked the bustle...

"This is where it needs taken in!"

My brother is a little silly when it comes to views...it shows what I did with my hair though.

I'm not sure if I like it enough yet...

It's just an upside down french braid, then braided and wound up on top. I'm going to have to have something for volume on top.

This one shows the beading on the dress best...

I love my dress! :D

Posted - Jul 06 2012 : 4:27:07 PM Thanks so much for the ideas and assistance! I am a little lost here, because I don't want to do a bunch of unnecessary things, but at the same time, I do want to have the important stuff! I'm trying desperately to pull all my (and y'all's!) creativity to pull this together well! I think there's a certain stigma that has to do with weddings, where brides get so caught up in impressing everyone that they lose sight of what it's all about! I don't want a cheesy wedding at all, just one that is nice, classy, and gets the job done!
Speaking of getting the job done, I've considered the courthouse...but I do have a nice dress. ;) Be a shame for no one to see it!
I'll need to get better pictures of the dress...and get myself fixed up a little too. Maybe when my brother gets home he and I can do a photo shoot for fun. I've been playing around with my hair trying to find a style that will hold up the comb for the veil. My hair is really fine and WILL NOT POOF!!! I do a lot of hairstyles on myself, so I think that's something I can handle. If not, one of Jacob's cousins has done the hair for the brides in the family, so that's another option.
I'm also fairly confident that I can make the cake, so that's something else I have to design. I never wear much makeup, but I was thinking it would be nice to have someone else do it for the big day. I read somewhere (bridal magazine addiction when I was 15) that you're supposed to have it done professionally to look good in pics or something along those lines.
Today I bought some pretty white tiny beaded flowers to glue onto bobby pins to use. The veil is fairly plain, and it would be nice to add a little something up front...
I think when this is over, I might just need to write a book. ;) Thanks for all your help! I bet y'all can't tell, but my mind is going 90 mph here, with ideas and all!

Posted - Jul 06 2012 : 1:52:54 PM Hey Kayla-- Your dress is just gorgeous! And yep, it will rise niceley with a hoop, so don't sweat that--couldn't have picked a prettier one if you tried! Now, about photography...the thing about asking folks to take pictures is that no matter how good the intentions, there will be a lot of photos that aren't good, the light isn't right, or they simply can't be edited--and there will be LOTS of photos of the exact same thing because unless you dedicate a person to take pictures at certain intervals during the day, most people will shoot the "sports center highlights", so to speak.
Here's a few things to think on--what type of photographs do you want? It's going to be a smaller wedding, so there would an opportunity for some more candid shots, I'd think, in addition to posed family photos and photos of you and your man that you might want to frame. My father in law took our photos and I told him to act like a war correspondent--just take things of note as he saw them happening, not worrying about posed photos. We did a few of those, too, for our family portrait and our wedding portrait, and I'm glad I have them, but when I look through my album, I see our wedding and reception as the guests saw it and that makes me smile.
A lot of times, when asked to take pictures, friends and family might just get the shots they feel are the most important...so you'll end up with lots of you or bridesmaids walking down the aisle, lots of you together during the cermony and lots of the cake, you and your man WITH the cake, etc...and there might be moments that could be missed because often, people don't think outside the box (nor should they, because they're not professional photographers).
This is my favorite photo that my fil took that day--and there are many, but this is our "wedding portrait" that is in our living room.

I'm going to check out some things around Columbia--you don't NEED a $1000 photo package--noone does. Because one or two get into frames and the rest hang out in an album. Let's do a little research....

Posted - Jul 06 2012 : 08:51:36 AM Haha...that's fine Lisa. Yeah, I just don't think I can afford to hire a photographer. The costs just keep on adding up! You can have a front row seat anyway, if you'd like. :)

Posted - Jul 06 2012 : 08:44:54 AM OOPS Kayla, just re-read your post & saw you are looking for ideas, not a photographer. That's what happens when I read MJ's instead of finishing an appraisal that I SHOULD have been doing. You look GORGEOUS in the dress. |

Posted - Jul 05 2012 : 9:01:48 PM Oh Kayla, you are just too dang gorgeous... & hang on. My sis is a pro photog( commercial, think Longaberger, Hampton Inns, Steak & Shake etc), but she knows how to photog folks too. I am speaking slighlty out of turn, since I have not talked to her, but hey, if it gets me a front row seat as a photog assistant, well heck yeah!!!! I will talk to Pam & see In the meantime, here is a link to their website, lest you thnk they are run of the mill hacks. http://bronzephotography.com/index.lasso?pgID=11 |

Posted - Jul 05 2012 : 7:48:00 PM OK, y'all...I need help. Any ideas on how to get good pictures from just family and friends? I did a little shopping around this afternoon and photographers are pretty expensive. I was thinking maybe I could just have half a dozen family members and/or friends designated to get a LOT of pictures, and then we could compile them and go through them. I've played around with a little photo editing before, and I could do that on some of them if I wanted. I don't know...what do y'all think? We could print anything we wanted and keep the rest as digital copies.
Honestly, my wedding budget is teeny tiny, like super duper itsy bitsy...and $1000 photography package just isn't possible. The more I got to thinking about it (ok, ok, so I'm really just trying to console myself and see the positive!) candid pics from family and friends would better show the real story of the day, as opposed to poses and stuff. And we can have friends take posed pictures of all the family...
