I want to start a blog but I have so many questions. I am sure there are many of you out there who have one going. How do I get started? I want a free one, I think or tell me why and why not a free blog.

I would NOT put my name on the blog name, but, that is just me. I believe that blog is already taken. If you want to know if a blog title is taken just google it ...

You have all been so helpful, thank you so much. I just love having a place where I can ask a question and get so many reponses with good advice. Do I need to come up with a name for my blog? Should I put my first and last name in? I was thinking of 'The ties that bind' but then thought, I may get some pretty twisted sisters looking.....

no you are not charged for the header, but there is NOW a charge for photos. That have a cap on the amount of space and then a small fee after that.
I pay yearly for my .com through them and 2.49 a month for images.
But, really, if you are a basic blooger and don't do a TON of photos it is FREE.

I've been using it for nearly 12 years and never charged anything, I've changed the header image many many times. However, I will say I usually just bandwidth them from photobucket. Which is also free.

One thing to be aware of with Blogger, I've heard there's a cap on image space & something about a fee to change the header... I don't use blogger so I can't confirm that.

I've used Wordpress for years and I really like it. Both are pretty much the same now in terms of how easy/hard it is to use the software.

playing with it has been the most fun for me, and decorating it! lol I also use blogger, it's free. The reason I really liked it in the beginning was it was free and ad free, they recently started putting ads on the free blogs....grrr, not liking that. But, they aren't obnoxious at least. but still blah! lol But, I've had one since blogger first began around 12 years now. And really really like it.

Blogger is very easy and its the one I have always used. I think the other one that is popular is wordpress but from what I've heard that is a little harder to use, but it has more options. I would say if you're starting out, go with Blogger. And, like the other ladies have said, if you don't understand something, just post a question here! We're all in various stages of learning and are always willing to help out! :)

Blogger set up will walk you through the process ... what you do with it after that is up to you ... Take a look at other blogs, if you see something just ask the blooger how they did it, or anyone here who has a blog I'm sure will help. Also blogger has their own form of help.
If you can read and follow directions ... you can start a blog!
Just have fun with it ... you will learn as you go.

As Nancy says . . blogger.com. You can create your own there and it is free. After you "learn the ropes" there are all kinds of things you can do with it. Ya' just have to get it started.
Have fun with it!
