Posted - Aug 02 2012 : 10:14:50 AM My early morning math was way off! How I thought this many five inch squares would reduce to a 12 inch block I don't know. :D

Looks like I'll be doing some trimming!

Posted - Aug 02 2012 : 4:47:49 PM I have done this many times over the last 30 years. And I didn't want to toss the block because I had put so much work into it, so I have saved all of them and am making an oops quilt. It will look like a sampler. Just with little opps everywhere...but it will hold a lot of memories of all the other quilts that I have made. I do love the colors though.
Happy quilting

Remember… Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body. Instead, you should slide in sideways, glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, in a body thoroughly used up, worn out and screaming “Woohooo! What a ride!”

Posted - Aug 02 2012 : 4:17:43 PM Thanks for all the praise, ladies. I haven't gotten to sew much this year so I was starting to worry about getting rusty, but you guys got me holding my head high now. :)
Marlene, Iam plum terrible with measurements too! Which, of course is how I ended up with a 7inch size flurble. :D
I did lose alittle detail in the red fabric which was the largest print but its not too bad. If I was keeping the block for myself I'd have just altred the quilt plans to fit the new blocks or Julie's idea about making a pillow would have been great too, but the block is for the july block swap. I probably shouldn't have posted a pic here sense it ruins the suprise for Jonesy but lately I neverget my block sizes right so it was just too funny that I over did the size by that much!
As it is the block somehow ended up at 13 inches instead of 12...BUT the other block I did for the June part of the swap is 13inches too! :D So, the quilting fates have decieded that Joan should have 13inch blocks...Who am I to fight it?! :D

Posted - Aug 02 2012 : 12:20:23 PM Sure is pretty though, hate to trim it too much. Are you making a full size quilt or a wall hanging? Sure would like to see the finished results as it is such a wonderful pattern. Debbie

Posted - Aug 02 2012 : 11:21:56 AM Hey, Marcy. You must have posted while I was typing. Yes, they're pinwheels. I was copying from memory a block I saw in a magazine where the artist managed to sneak an extra pinwheel in the center of the block so they all sorta blend but stand out at once. I thought it was a great modern twist. :)

Posted - Aug 02 2012 : 11:17:42 AM Thanks, Mary Beth & Marly!
Marly, its not that hard. They're just pinwheels, if you put two squares of fabric face to face & draw a line from the upper corner to the opposite lower corner & sew 1/4th inch from the guide line then cut down the guide line you get two squares that are two triangles of you colors. Then just set up your pattern & sew your block. I always cut my scarp cottons into 5,4 or 3 inch squares so I can do projects like this without alot of set-up.
So, once Iam done with lunch & watching Anthony Bourdain visiting Charleston NC. I'll be trimming my squares down to 3 1/2 inches & making my 19inch block into the 12inch one I planned for. :)

Posted - Aug 02 2012 : 11:11:55 AM It's very pretty, love the colors. Is it supposed to be a pinwheel quilt? I hope you post a pic when it's done.
