So my MIL is 86 years old . She decided to go ahead and deed my husband the rest of his property today. I am very excited for him. So now we have 12 acres. He was really wanting to wait until she passed but was afraid to because he has a sister that swindled or stole all of his Mothers money plus just recently swindled her out of a $150,000.00 condo
she owned free and clear. It was suppose to be split between all three kids but his sister is a master munipulater. They have tried to get her to deed the condo back over to their mother and she will not budge. His mother has begged and pleaded with her even in front of the attorney who had drawn up the Trust. So to keep her from stealing anything else from them out of their inheritance they decided they had better go ahead and get their land that is all that is left. Very sad situation. But happy knowing she cannot steal that now.

Yes Emily all of the land is together. It is connected. It use to be a 40 acre orange grove his Dad put it in 1942. The grove got old and started dyeing out so we fenced it off and put cows on it to keep our Ag. Exemption. We will keep the cows on it for now. There is a big subdivision going in behind us. We are hoping in the future that the developers will come over and offer us big bucks for it since it borders a highway on 2 sides of us.

Wow. I just don't get how someone can do that. How cold does someone's soul have to be to take advantage of a parent like that? So sad, but so happy that you got the land!! Is all of the land together? You said that you husband and his siblings got 5 acres when the dad passed. Just wondering if that land is connected to what you own now or how far it is? What do you plan on doing with it?

Yes Marianne she moved into the condo and will not budge. Dear old mom who has been there for years for her is left to fend on her own......Bless her little old heart. But my DH and I will look out after her. Plus other sister.....

Dorinda,
It is a shame and despicable. It must break your MIL's heart. So, has "sister dear" taken off for the hills now that the money flow has slowed?

Marianne we live on 5 acres of it now. His Dad gave each one of them 5 acres before he passed 25 years ago. My husband and I built our home on ours because he was still taking care of the orange grove for his Mom and Dad. His sisters were married and lived with their husbands else where at the time. But the one that swindled the money and condo from their mother got divorced right after that and moved back in with her Mother. It has been nothing but party city and travel for her ever since. We determined the other day that she has spent half of million dollars of his moms money in just the past 5 years. She even took a $175,000.00 dollar loan out against his mothers place which was paid for when his Dad passed away 25 years ago. His father left his mother well off now she is broke because of the Sister. I.m talking has nothing left because of his sister and has to move in with us or his other sister now so she can rent her home out to save it and the rest of the land which it sits on. Him and his other sister is furious at this time with their sister. I've heard of people doing this to their elderly parent but never figured to know some one who actually did it. Wow so sad.

Dorinda,
So happy to hear that worked out for you and your husband. Congratulations on owning 12 acres. Will you live on it?

Siblings can be a big disappointment when it comes to inheritance...

Congratulations! I'm glad his mother did what she did.

That is very sad. To swindle from your own mother. Hope that is all she gets out of the rest of what your MIL still has. It is good that the land is deeded now she cannot get her hands on it.
