There is a 1,500 acre wildfire that is burning less than 10 miles away from a suburb of Billings. It is 0% contained but it sounds like only one home has been lost so far. It is spreading a the rate of 1-2 miles per hour towards the town and a lot of the work being done right now is to protect the town rather than contain I think. This is the first time a wildfire has been burning this close to me- They say the wind will be blowing from the wrong direction today and could cause it to burn really close to the town or get into town. I figure if a big fire gets to the edge of town it's going to be like the historic Chicago fire and the flames will spread faster than the firefighters can control them.

I am hoping that the brave, brave firefighters are able to contain the fire today and that our neighbors in Lockwood do not lose any more homes!

Goodness! That is scary. We had a small grass fire that came within 5 miles of out house in Cheyenne earlier this year. That was too close for comfort for me. The fire season this year is crazy! So many people losing their homes and fires burning too near major population groups! Aren't firefighters awesome? They work so hard with so little thanks.

Everything seems to be okay and due to diligent firefighters, farmers, and townsfolk, the fire is mostly contained. Doug and I just sat on our porch for almost an hour watching lightning arc across the sky. I hope rain comes and no more fires!!

Prayers going out to all that are close to the fire, also for rain, and more rain. Be careful and hope it is contained soon.

My Daughter lives in Lockwood and the fire stared just down the road from her neighborhood. She was worried last night that if the winds turned she would need to stay at my house. As of this time the winds are still out of the north and the fire is almost contained. I feel like Alee that we all need to be aware and fire safe this year.

Here in the Billings area we are about 5 inches below our average rain total so far this year. We are all praying for rain and would not mind a few days of rain.

Oh no! Praying for all of you!

My brother was born in Park City(looks like the other side of Billings) and we spent many a summer with relatives around Billings so I know the area fairly well.

Will be praying for all. Including fire fighters. My hubby is a trained fire fighter volunteer, so I know the work involved.
