Posted - Apr 05 2013 : 08:16:58 AM On the subject, get this... I heard on the radio earlier this week, that you can't have a yard sale ANYWHERE in Maryland now without getting a permit and insurance! The fee for a one time yard sale permit is $100!! I barely make that when I host a yard sale! PLUS... you have to pay tax on every item sold - even used items!
The given rationale is that it will cut down on those who have weekly yard sales, and help curb traffic liability issues. Though I can understand this, those fees (and taxes) are ridiculous! Here we are with so much junk, and with such a push for recycling that I can't see how ANYONE would want to have a yard sale now. I fear that the option of hauling it all to the dump is going to increase. SAD!

Posted - Mar 27 2013 : 9:12:06 PM Well, even tho we sort of live out in the country.... and it snowed (grappeled) the nite before (we work up to a thick layer of frost on the ground.... our yard sale was a success.... so much so that we had very little left to sell the next day... Up here, the 1st chance/break in the weather... yard sales start popping up! We live about 15 miles from Spokane,,, out in the West Plains...(old wheat farm land)... but it didn't keep the people from driving all the way out here... We didn't list in the News Paper....but we did list in Craigs List and had a big sign down by the Hi Way and all up & down our long country road... The best thing about yard saleing out here... it is an excuse for all the country neighbors to meet up and chew the fat,(gossip) lol!

Posted - Mar 25 2013 : 3:17:46 PM Grace I hope you made out well with your sale, we had one last year and it was a flop, we had great things but not much traffic after spending over $50 to place the ad in our newspaper! Oh well! |

Posted - Mar 25 2013 : 12:37:40 PM Here in Hemet, CA, every Friday is yard sale day. What people do is get some great deals then you take the bargains you got and sell them on Saturday. Great way to supplement your income. Terri |

Posted - Mar 22 2013 : 10:40:19 PM Yard sales..can kick your butt. Do they have a lot of garage sales this early in the season in Washington? Late April, early May starts our season. That's my favorite time of the year to go..when it's not to hot.
