Posted - Apr 05 2013 : 06:34:25 AM I like Rosemary's idea of getting things out and enjoying and sharing them. When my Mom passed away and we opened her cedar chest there were so many mysteries. Which handwork had she done? Which came from her mother? Who were some of the people in treasured pictures? Why was a particular thing there? I know she was keeping them safe but they would have meant more to us if we had just known some of that stuff.

Posted - Apr 04 2013 : 11:00:47 PM I could kick myself in the butt for getting rid of mine. When I was in my 20's, I was just moving around and didn't have room. So I got rid of it. I would never do that now!

Posted - Apr 04 2013 : 12:51:55 PM I know the feeling! Our cedar chest resides in the living room, and sometimes the grands like to open it and ask what is this, what is this? It really takes me down the lane of my life, and my hubby's too. But I love the feeling of having it there. Inside, there is a satin banner that was in the window of my hubby's grandmother's house when his dad was in the service. You know that ones with a star? There is the railroad pendant watch his granddad wore on his job. We keep adding things. Today, I decided to add a miniature Made in Japan tea set that was his mom's. I love having those things nearby. we are blessed to have them!

Posted - Apr 04 2013 : 10:31:43 AM I agree with setting time aside to go through your treasures. Make your self a nice cup of tea, play your favorite music on the stereo and have fun! I need to take time and do that as well :)

Posted - Apr 02 2013 : 10:55:03 PM Nancy, maybe it is time to have some fun with your treasures. Hang the shirt in Richard's closet. Put your camp memorabilia and letters from your grandfather in a basket and leave it in a place where your grandchildren can browse. |

Posted - Apr 02 2013 : 12:22:54 PM Nice memories you have bought back for me. I have my grandmothers cedar chest. She had it in her attic since I can remember. One holloween I asked her if I could wear her dress from the cedar chest and she let me. It was her wedding dress. What a treasure you have there.

Posted - Apr 02 2013 : 08:21:52 AM Your cedar chest is full of wonderful memories. I had one and kept similar things in it, also. Nice write up on your cedar chest, I enjoyed reading it. Marly
