So, we've had a TON of stress lately, and our family has just felt very disconnected and pulled in so many directions - most of them away from each other. Much of it, is just the life of being busy parents with social kids. However, we made a quick decision to just "Pack UP and Get OUT" for 24 hours. It'll be worth the the money shucked out for a night at a hotel... with a pool. :)

So, we're going to just get out of Maryland, and head over to the Northern Neck of VA. It's not far, but we'll meander our way around. Sometimes we'll flip a coin at intersections just to see where our adventure will take us. The boys (6 & 9) love poking around thift stores, flea markets and antique stores right along with us, so I'm confident we'll have a good time, and the sun's supposed to shine.

Though we aren't making plans, my DH did stumble upon this link:

http://elizabethholcombe.typepad.com/elizabeth_holcombe_whimsi/2008/07/a-thrif-tique-tour-of-the-northern-neck.html

and it's the first time I've ever heard the term, "Thriftique." LOVE IT! Just thought it would be an appropriate mention here!

I hope you have a great time--it will be nice to get a change of scenery and to not have all that stress for a bit. Truly enjoy yourselves!!!

I'm doing something similar at the end of May (if I don't lose my mind before then!). I had some hospitalization at the first of the year and the medical bills are astronimical--especially for someone who has a $4k deductible and doesn't make a ton of money. The doctors are "somewhat" willing to workout payment plans, but I want to get it out of my hair. I took out a loan from my 401K (I'll be working for 30 more years, so $4k ain't gonna break me) and I'm paying them off. AND, I'm taking my little girl on a trip to visit friends in Florida and I decided I'm going to take her to the Magic Kingdom for a day. Sure, it's big, but she's 4 and we don't need to see everything under the sun. It's going to be costly (well, more money than I'm used to spending on myself) but it's going to be worth it. Life is too short!!!!

Sounds like and awesome plan! I can totally relate to what you are saying as far as being pulled in so many different directions, that "family time" seems so hard to come by. I have an almost 13 year old daughter and an almost 15 year old son, and their social lives, does tend to dictate our calendar!
We often do the "local" hotel thing with our kids too, and have for years ever since they were little. Its a bunch of fun, and boy, when you combine it with thrifting, well than, that to me sounds like a perfect getaway! LOL
Hope you have an awesome time!

Marybeth, it wasn't my blog, and we haven't gone yet. Plan to depart tomorrow, but since i DO have a blog, I'm thinking I'll try to post my own Tour next week.
