Hey Girls,
I just read something from a really neat craft blog that I enjoy visiting.
It was written back in october and although, I am not sure of the exact circumstances, someone apparently took the pictures that she had posted of her children from her blog and did something inapropriate with them.
She wrote that because of this awful experience, she no longer would be posting pictures of her kids.
That is mostly what is on my blog, picts of my children.
I have some pretty ones of Lainey too. I hate to be fearful but I think I will take some of them off.
Have any of you heard anything about things like this?
Thanks,
Lindy

It just makes me so sad. It really is a shame that something so useful as a computer can be used in such a destructive way. I tend to always think most people are good and then you hear these things and you realize many people just don't think like the rest of us. I can't imagine exploiting children and then sleeping peacefully at night!?

thanks for the reminder to be safe in computer land. also a good idea to teach our children that happen to use computers to not share personal info.

Well, I just put a statcounter on our homeschool blog, but I purposely leave it out of directories, so it's very hard to find for anyone I haven't specifically told. I figure if I get wierd hits, I'll figure out how to contact law enforcement. They do stings to catch that kind of person, so surely somebody somewhere would want to know? Thanks for the statcounter link! I've been wanting something like that.

this stuff is horrible. I dont blog but I enjoy all yours. it took me forever to get a computer just because I don't like putting things out there. Talking to all of you is so natural for me & I never think of anyone else reading these let alone taking pics from blogs. People need to get a grip!

Also if you go to www.statcounter.com you can imbed something into your blog that tells where people are checking you from, how they got to your site, what site they went to when they left yours, and how many hits your blog is getting. I know that may not stop people but it may give you a heads up to anything fishy. I refer to my kids as teen-bean and baby-bean in my blog. My Mom wants me to refer to myself as the supreme-bean but I've resisted so far. *grin*

I have a feature imbeded in my blog that makes it so that people clicking on my pictures get a pop up reminding them to ask to copy the pic. I agree that you should not post more than you are compfortable with. I put pretty much everything on my blog, but I understand those who aren't willing to do that.

I think it is very wise to be careful with what you put on your blog. ( sorry I didn't mean that it sounded like any one attacked her caracter). Iw as stating that she is a lovely person and bad things happen to even nice people so be careful in what you do. Evn innocent things I saw a blog the other day posting pictures and the person didn't reaslize they had posted their addressterror for that persons safety went through me. Just because a lot of people are kind doesn't mean all are. Unless you know how to track your visitors you have no idea who is looking at your site. I know on my blog if you click on the map you can see people from all over the world look at my stuff. I don't know them and sometimes that is weird. One person even tracked me down between here at MJF and My blog and knew all my family members names in California. Very creepy luckily after some investigation I found out the person was a friend of my mothers when she was 18 years old still creepy to me. As I have never said her name here or on my blog. People if they want to can figure out all kinds of things.

Hi Sunshine,
It is so hard to the tone in which people are using when we are not there directly speaking to them.
I hope that my post did not imply that the lady that we are speaking of was anything but sweet and kind.
I did not know what exactly happened but what I had imagined was worse than what you said.

You can do so many things with adobe photoshop, you can put people and things into photos that were not there in the first place.

In my minds eye, I saw someone taking some of the close up shots of her babies and putting their heads on some other kids body or something like that.

Her post scared me into taking mine off.

Thanks,

Lindy

Just so you know the blog I think she is reffering to is little birds. I actually talked a lot to her ( the blog owner) at the time of this happening. They were not naked photos or any thing like that. They where just taken and used in a way differnt to her wishes which scared her into thinking other things could happen. So she removed them. She is a lovely person and restarted her blog minus most kid photos and doesn't talk about them any more ( the kids that is). I am careful not to put my kids names on things on my blog you might see the first innitial of one of their names that is just so relatives know to whom I am talking about. My relatives are kind and do the same when they leave posts or don't use anything to identify them. Yes there are strange people in the world. When you put things on the internet you post them for the whole world to see. That is one of the reasons all blog comments on my blog go through me before they are posted to my blog. To see if there are any wrong ideas I don't want portrayed. As I got a few in the begining that really attacked my religion and about 50 others types of religion. I don't pick on people for what their religion is and I won't let it happen on my blog either. Jsut be careful ladies.

I really hated to do it but I took most of my family pictures off.
I left a few pictures that were a bit grainy anyway but I had so many of my little girl on there and well, I hate not being able to share with everyone but I just can't take a chance. I was taking a gamble by putting them out there. I just did not realize the danger. you never know who is looking.
At typepad, where I have my blog, you can see visitor stats. You can see if someone was searching for instance Sangean Radios on google, well my site comes up as one of the results because I talk about mine in a post. You never know, the person looking for radios could be a pervert too.

I've heard of that more times than I care to count. So has my daughter, and as a result she NEVER puts pics of her children ANYWHERE on the net. EVER. And as a doting grandma, I totally respect her wishes and I don't post any either.

There are some very sick and twisted people in the world, and the idea that someone would exploit these babies breaks my heart. It's a personal choice as to whether or not to post pics, but for me and mine I figure it's good to give the sickos less to work with.

Lindy...I know the blog of which you are speaking and yes, I have.
I havent had anyone take photos of my boys from my blog, but after reading the post of which you referred, I checked my photos on flickr and there were 3 photos of my youngest walking nakie through our garden (which I totally love) had gotten like 500 more hits than any of the others. Obviously used for unintentional purposes. Makes me sick. I still post photos of my children on my blog until I have reason not to, but I think twice about what they are doing in the photos. And I password protect any bathtub photos or nakie nakie ones now.

This is awful isnt it???
