what might that be you ask?

Well...I'll be going tomorrow to see about a job.

I have not worked outside of the home since I got married 17 yrs ago.

I am both excited and nervous and a mix of emotions I guess.

My husband and I went to a small gourmet kitchen shop that offers cooking classes as well as things like baked bread and wine, and kitchen wares,a few home decor items, etc.

While there on Saturday..I just up and asked the woman that owns the shop if she ever needed help(shocked myself by asking..ha)..and she replied "yes" and so I asked her how many hours a week would she need someone and she said "20-25 hrs" and told me to come back next week to talk to her..

well..it is now next week...

so..I'll be going by her shop tomorrow.

The shop is really cute and quaint, and a little bit "stuffed to the gills" with all types of kitchen wares, etc. and always smells absolutely heavenly.(fresh baked breads that they sell there as well as flavored coffees, and if there is a class..well, the smell of a good meal... the shop's owner is a German lady that loves to cook)

Every Saturday there is a cooking class going on, some of which are hosted by area chefs and some by folks that have travelled abroad.

Anyhow...I'm crossing my fingers that I get the job.

Wish me well.

hugs, Tina

Big Hugs!!! I have worked in a place like that and can you believe they got on to me for always cleaning. If I didn't clean no one would have. I worked in that crazy scene for 2 years and had enough of being the only one doing anything...for the rest of the staff it was just a social gathering. Being home with the little ones is always the best place to be.

well...drat..the photo oppurtunity fell through......the gal that was in negotiations to get the job on making the table tents for the resturaunt and talking to them about having me come in as the photographer..well..somehow the deal fell through.(I don't know how/why..I got the email last night telling me it was a no go)

I was just going to be the photographer for the job..another gal was going to do the printing and so forth.
Ahh well...that's the way the cookie crumbles.

seems the things I did try to accomplish this week just weren't meant to happen..there are sometimes days like that...for one reason or another....but we keep smiling and carry on...
and enjoy what does come into the day.:0)

that's the latest on that..it didn't fly.I think I'm more disappointed about not getting the photo work than I was on the working at the shop...but such is life...there will be something nice come along later..when it's supposed to..that's how I look at it.

thanks gals for chiming in here and rooting for me in my corner..I really appreciated it.

Tina Michelle,
So glad you are out of there!! One of these days she will get caught by the health department or someone getting sick. I hope she cleans up her act by then (no pun intended)! DO what you love, and love what you do. Stick with the photography!

Blessed Be!

Thanks for the lift, Tina ... what a story!

I must say that I love your attitude and your husband's attitude as well! To add to his comment about not being able to say you haven't worked out of the home in 17 years, it sounds like you did about a week's worth of work in that one day!

I wonder if that lady knows how much she is gonna miss you...absolutely her loss.

At least you got to see that grass isn't always greener...or cleaner!

I was excited, but boy when I saw how things were "behind the scenes" ocompared to what they present to the public..boy was I in for a rude awakening! LOL
I am chuckling over it today, but sheew!

I enjoy the photography so much more as I'm me..and can be creative with it and enjoy every bit of it..without being fussed at too LOL

So, yes..everything happens for a reason.

No need for me to fret over it or be upset about it..just a wee lesson learned..at least the woman got a clean kitchen ..for a day..haha

and I excercised a few bending and stretching muscles that I didn't know I had until the next day..ha.

thanks gals:0)

Oh Tina, so sorry to hear this, I know how excited you were too. But everything happens for a reason and this sounds like you don't need that kind of stress at all! And you still have the photo shoot which sounds like a much better deal. Hugs!!!

Well if it wasn't for you headache, and the let down of not working, you have to say it was pretty funny. It could have been a sitcom on TV. OK, Maybe it will be a few more days before you see it that way.
If you really want to work a few days a week, something else will come along, just keep a look out, maybe a Library? That dewy decimal system, now that is organized!!

Tina- I am so sorry. That woman and her shop sound like a train wreck! Good for you though, your integrity is intact and you can spend your time with the most important people- your kids!! And take your beautiful photographs!
See- it all worked out in the end! :)

PS Good for you to see all those red flags everywhere; you'd have been far more stressed than the paycheck would have compensated for, I bet.
Tina Michelle Posted - Mar 09 2007 : 8:39:26 PM
Well, things were just a bit "too good to be true" sounding on the job front I tell you!

Well. the first day at work today was also my last day...I have a bad
tension headache now.
It was the worst place I have ever worked.!

So unorganized and once I got in the kitchen the kitchen was a real mess and
totally unorganized.I mean a REAL MESS!
I got fussed at 3 times today for things that I had no idea where they were
supposed to go and so forth..and my boss just expected me to know..so I got
fussed at.

Suffice it to say that I nearly hung up the apron about 3 times today but
stuck it out and got through the day but told my boss that quite frankly I
was extremely frazzled because the shop was a mess and not organized and I
couldn't handle all the helter skelter way of doing things.

There were papers on the back office floor on the floor, just thrown down on
the floor.. and the boss says to me..so what am I supposed to do? stop and
pick them up? if you have a problem with it talk to Amy she's the one that
did it..you see that I was helping customers today"

.well..she did help customers but she did a heap of social chit chat/gossip
and then got hair done too.

but anyhow..when I heard her excuses for not keeping things clean I was
like..o.k. this just is not going to be a good place for me.

Today the health inspector was supposed to come and the first thing that
happened was they said "hurry get on an apron and start cleaning" And I was
like start cleaning what?
Where? In a totally new to me kitchen I had no clue where anything was so I'm going around looking for cleaners and cloths! I tell you it was weird! VEry, very unorganized!

And I booked it and cleaned everything I could then I get told "oh you have
to hurry and go wrap a package now"..

and I'm like o.k. where do I do that
at..and then when I got the one package done I wasn't told where to set it,
so I put it by the cash register so my boss would see it and she was
like..why did you put it there that's how mistakes happen? and I told her
well maam you didn't tell me where to put anything.

Then she wanted me to put packaged napkins in a basket and we had filled 3 baskets
and she said put these around out there anywhere they will work..so I did
..and then she comes back through and says oh they have to go all together
here by the door(all three big bushel baskets) told me to put them where I
thought to ..and I didn't put them by the door with the others because I was
afraid it would block customers paths..so anyhow she fussed at me about that
and in the same breath said but if you have an artistic way of doing
something please do..and I said oh that's o.k. I don't..I'll put them here
by the door.

Then with the cleanup in the kitchen..it was terrible..she has stuff
permanently stuck to the cupboards..jars that have permanently stuck..and
so..because she is part of the "good ole boy" network here
..well..they don't write her up about it..ha.The gal that was supposed
to be training me said to me"oh Miss H.... knows how to play her cards
and she will too"
Yeah I guess so because honestly anybody else would have been cited for the
stuff I saw.

I tell you the Walmart Snack Bar in South Florida back when I worked that was wayy
cleaner.

At one point today Miss H... had prepared a pork roast/raw meat but had not
wiped off the table..and so we were fixing to do something else on the table
and I asked the other girl..did she just prepare raw meat here? and she said
"oh yeah..she did" And I was like.."well thanks for letting me know..she
didn't clean it up" And we were fixing to have to make something else on the
table.

So anyhow..alot of health stuff that really was a bit scary.

I told Paul (my hubby)it was such a mess.

I told her too(the boss)..I said that I just visually could not take in the
helter skelter disorganization and the way things were so unorganized...it
was just really alot of unorganized.

Sooo..she said..well give it one more day..but naww it's beyond what I want
to do.

Her excuse for it being such a mess was .."well it's a shop and the customer
comes first"..ha.
To me..things today would not have been so very frazzling helter skelter and everything if things were kept up as they should be to begin with...but ahh well.

Anyhow..it was a wreck.
Down the hallway to get to the gift wrapping station it is like a maze to
dodge stuff.

I worked more than the gal that was supposed to train me today.I sweated and
worked my tail off cleaning that kitchen I tell you!!

but ahh well..

I was only a couple minutes into gift wrapping something for her and trying
to find my way around the gift wrapping stuff because it was so
unorganized..she hands me a box and an item and says here wrap this and put
a bow on it..then 2 minutes later comes back in..where is it? I'm working on
it maam almost done. and she was like..well my customer wants it yesterday.

So anyhow..it just won't work.

I cried all the way home, then burst into tears when I got in the door.
Just so not worth the headache.

How she honestly has stayed in business since 1972 is wayy beyond me..but as
was mentioned today.."the good ole boy network" she has alot of names in
town that go see her just to "jaw/gossip" during the day.

Well, that's the run down on the day..I still have a headache even now at 10
p.m.
ugghh.

So..I'll be able to do the photo shoot coming up..I'd much rather do stuff
like that anyhow..and funny thing..I really missed my kids today too.

Hannah(my 2 yr old) started asking.."where's mama..mama where are you" today while I was
gone..so yeah..my best job is the easiest job..just being mom.

I'll help Paul by running errands and doing the occasional photo shoot.

I tell you..I could definitely run my own kitchen shop way better if that's
the best this County has I tell you!

Well..enough of that.

That's how it went..but my husband chuckled and said to me.."now you can't say that you've never worked a day outside of the house in 17 yrs..cause today you did...haha..just a day" LOL

Ahh well...

Congratulations, Tina, on your new job! It sounds like a nice start since you haven't worked outside your home for many years. Even though your boss seems a little "scattered-brained", she sounds flexible in your hours if you ever had family things come up. It sounds like a very nice little shop and I'm sure you'll have fun with it!
Tina Michelle Posted - Mar 09 2007 : 07:07:22 AM
I have learned already that my new boss is scatter brained..she had told me to show up on Thursday at 1 ,but then when I got there she said "oh I told you Friday"..I do not remember the mention of Friday being the date at all as everytime we spoke she said Thursday..but ahh well..I was warned...
so I said ok well I'll just use the time that I'm here now to familiarize myself with where things are in the shop"..and she was like.."oh hey..that's a great idea!"

I was warned on the day of the interview by a gal there that my new employer had a habit of getting scatter brained and that I'd have to help her find and remember things...
so ..I got my first lesson in that yesterday...ha.

So..the "official" day is today..ha...unless she tells me that she told me Saturday..ha.

At least yesterday when she asked me if I was mad because I wasn't to start that day..and I told her "oh no..I'll just take advantage of getting out of the house for a little while"..she came back by me and said.."you have a wonderful personailty..I think we'll get along great"..:0)

So anyhow...official day shall be today.

I did find out something new..that they had not told me ..I was under the impression that the shop was simply a shop where folks came in for food items..but found out yesterday that they actually cater items as well...so..I don't know yet if I'll be involved in that sort of thing as well.

So anyhow..that's the latest...I find out more today and hopefully I'll actually have a written schedule..I sure hope so.
