Posted - Mar 07 2007 : 6:52:33 PM I had to make a quick trip to Columbia (MO) yesterday and on the way there, I saw an antique mall right at the exit off the interstate. On the way back, I took what I planned to be a quick stop. Oh my! This is a new place, only open about a year, and it is fantastic. So if you're ever down to that part of the country and are looking for a place to while away an hour or several hours, it's a few miles (shoot, which direction would that be!) either East or South of Columbia (as if you're heading to St. Louis) right off I-70. It's at a town called WIlliamsburg or something like that, and it's called Artichoke Annie's. There are a few billboards advertising it, so you'll be able to find it. Wonderful place!!

Posted - Mar 08 2007 : 4:46:17 PM Rocheport - about 10 miles west of Columbia. Sleepy little town that sits down in the valley. You have to pass by Les Bougelais Winery to get there, so be sure to stop for lunch. The food is great and the scenery is stunning.
Downtown Fulton is charming with old time drug stores/soda fountains, antique stores. It always seems to be in transition with new little shops coming in and going out.
Market Place antique mall at Exit 125 in Columbia is a good one. A mix of antique, collectible and home dec stuff. Exit 125 has a round-a-bout rather than a stop light, so pay attention. Twice I ended up back on the highway instead of the service road!
I'll keep thinking!

Posted - Mar 08 2007 : 08:40:27 AM Sandy, thanks for the heads-up about Crane's. I'll definitely stop there next time!
My son is probably going to stay in Columbia for at least part of the summer to take classes (his first summer not to be at home ; the mom in me is sad but it's important that he think of his future, so I understand). At lunch the other day, I asked if he would mind if I came up for a few days and explored the area antique stores, small surrounding towns, etc., and he said that would be great (he even said I could have his bedroom & he'd sleep on the couch!!). I'm not very familiar with that part of the state and I think it would be lots of fun to drive around to the small towns in the area, etc. I'm really looking forward to it. So if you have any other suggestions, send them my way. tia

Posted - Mar 07 2007 : 7:22:10 PM Oh, and the next time you are headed that way, take the Williamsburg exit and visit the Crane's Country Store and musuem. It is a wonderful collection of old country store and farm "stuff". It has been owned and operated by the Crane family for generations - there is still a country store, but they have added the museum, ice cream shop and antiques in the last few years.
Definately worth the stop!

Posted - Mar 07 2007 : 7:18:49 PM I wonder if that is in the same place as the Apple Wagon Antique Mall is....or was. I am actually headed to Jefferson City this weekend and will take a look!
