Posted - Mar 09 2007 : 7:40:52 PM I can't find it now. Well anyway, I wanted to show you all the Victrola that we got this week! Oh what fun! I have not idea how old it is. I just know that it is a nice change of pace to wind something up and listnen to old tunes instead of plugging it up. I have a picture on my blog. Lindy

Posted - Mar 13 2007 : 7:05:36 PM Yes, and it's when I first heard Johann Strauss Jr and his beautiful Roses From the South waltz.....and when I first heard 'Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin' on that wonderful old victrola that was left behind in a little cottage on 3 acres that my Mom and Dad bought. It's all gone now, but I'll never forget that crank-up old player. I was in a thrift store today and saw some old (probably size 16) records - and everytime I see some of those old records for sale, I remember the old victrola. Nice memories. |

Posted - Mar 11 2007 : 12:51:16 AM OHHHHHH!! I want one so badly!!! I grew up on records and loved my little record player and now when I listen to music it is so beautiful off my little Ipod...but sometimes I misss the static sound of the needle on the record as it filled our home with tunes and stories and Iget "homesick" for those rainey days when my mom would play it all day and "noah's ark" or "the Nutcraker" or many other sounds would fill our home. *sigh* can any of you point me in a good direction to get one and to buy records? I think that would be high on my "really want in my farmhouse" list for things I would want to fill my home with once we settle in! I absolutely LOVED your picture Lindy! Such a neat treasure!!! Hugz! Talitha

Posted - Mar 10 2007 : 05:48:08 AM This is a topic near and dear to my heart as my first married Christmas present was a tall cabinet type Victrola. That was almost 20 years ago and we have had more fun with it and all the kids that traipse through my house are fascinated. Overheard recently "Dude, your Mom sure likes alot of weird old stuff but THAT is cool!" I always wanted the type you got with the big horn and the small base but I never had the heart to tell my husband he got the wrong one! He was so pleased he hid it for almost a month and a half and REALLY surprised me Christmas morning grinning from ear to ear. Now how could I ruin that?! Enjoy yours and have fun with all the strange records out there you can find. We have one that has sounds of some bush people chanting! Who knew? Imagine how exotic and foreign that must have seemed when there was only radio (if you were lucky) and television was yet to be created. Must have seemed miraculous! Enjoy!

Posted - Mar 10 2007 : 05:14:56 AM I'm so glad others have a victrola as well. We have a large cabinet style, it's over 100 years old. We love to play it and my 4 year old loves to turn the handle to get it going. We have tons of records that came with it when we bought it and we are still going through all of them. My DH when we first purchased it went on the internet and there is a whole group of people dedicated to restoring and learning about them. He got really into it for a while.

Posted - Mar 09 2007 : 8:56:36 PM Hi, I just love your Victrola. They do sound rough but that's what makes them so nostalgic. Mine is a cabinet type that stands about 4ft tall. And yesss, they are loud. My kids are not very tolerant with me when I'm jamming with mine, lol. The music sounds better if you use a new needle every two to three plays. Otherwise the needle will start to scratch the records. That's how mine works anyway. I got extra needles the lady gave me when I purchased mine, but you can get them online at different spots just do a google search if you need more. Enjoy your beautiful find! p.s. I added you to my favorite blogs list, I tried to post on your blog but it never worked. ~~Blessings, Mikki
