and saw The Bridge to Terebithia. It was a pretty good movie up to one point & then what happened midway, ruined the rest of the movie for me & my family. It is a Disney film and I expected leave happy, but instead left feeling depressed. After that midway point, they tried to make some type amends for the event, and made a sorry attempt at a happy ending. It didn't work for me. I do not recommend taking smaller children to see it. I cried, my 16 year old DD cried, my DH & 12 year old DD had to choke back the tears. I do not want to ruin the story line for those planning on seeing it, but I did want to warn you ahead of time.

I teach in a middle school also. A lot of my students have read it, so I read it also. The movie did seem to stick to the book-but I agree, the commercials made it seem like a lighthearted fantasy movie.
I remember thinking the same thing about "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe"-great book, good movie, but there are some really violent battle scenes and other violence-when we were at the theater I saw children that looked about 3 or 4-I remember wondering if those kids had nightmares that night. But again, the movie was marketed as a family film for children.

Hmmm. The book is typically taught in the sixth grade at our school, and many of my students love it, saying it's one of their favorite books (usually the girls)! (Which actually kind of disappointed me, because I had been hoping to teach it to them this year(grade 8.) |

The book itself is not real happy itself. I haven't seen the movie.

I was bummed for 2 days after seeing this movie. It was NOT what I expected. Both my hubby and I thought it would be more of a fantasy type film. It's not for young kids IMHO. Lu

I was surprised to hear that they made it into a movie in the first place. And even teaching the book at the middle school level I find a bit perplexing, as some of the themes and events are very adult in nature.

I didn't realize this was based on a book. I thought it was just the classic Disney to add that type of drama...the kind that seems to be in every one of their movies anyway. I did really enjoy it until that part. It wasn't what I thought either & maybe that is part of the disappointment as well. Even though it didnt go the way I thought, there were some very touching times.

Yeah, we took our oldest three daughters to see it. I actually liked it but it wasn't what I thought. I think it was a good movie that was just marketed poorly. They make you think that it is a fantasy movie when really that is just a sub plot. My sister and brother in law teach middle school and teach this book and were glad to hear that they stuck to the story line. They thought the story had been completely changed because of the commercials they saw for it. Oh well, that's Disney for ya!
