Posted - May 02 2025 : 06:47:47 AM I'm confessing here and now to being a jar collector. I have never met a jar I didn't like and want to keep. Vintage Mason jars are my favorites but any jar especially if it has a pretty colored lid or is unusual in size or shape is a keeper. Saying all that brings me to the little round jar with orange lid that peaches came in. You jar keepers know that I just had to hang on to that one. Several years back I put all my jars on one shelf in my pie safe while they waited to be used. I made one rule for me to follow. New jar in - old jar out - easier said than done. So today when I put that beautiful little round jar with orange lid on the shelf, I took a jar out. Must admit I took out the plainest jar on the shelf, but it did make room for the jar I really wanted to keep.

Posted - May 18 2025 : 11:55:58 AM I just collect jars. . .any kind! I have some in a cabinet in my hallway. My 14 yr. old Granddaughter dug around in that cabinet, pulled one out, and made the cutest gift for her friend with it! She decorated it and put cute sayings in it. Now her friend can open it, pull out a saying, and have a brighter day because Maddie decorated and filled an old jar with love!

Posted - May 18 2025 : 09:37:46 AM Yes, Winnie, I still have my collection of vintage cream trimmed in green enamelware. I never tire of it or my collection of vintage jars. Enjoy your Readers Digest books and I hope you learn something about what was being read during the WWII.

Posted - May 18 2025 : 09:20:01 AM Somehow I have not been checking in on this post and I sure have missed a lot of great sharing!! Sara, I think you also are a collector of green rimed enamelware?? Every time I see a piece of that somewhere I think of you and wonder what you have. Count me on as a collector of lots most things vintage including old books which I treasure. Yesterday, I stumbled on this small store on a road I am not often on and stopped. It is closing at the end of this month but I found a collection of Reader's Digest magazines dating back to 1930s-1950s. I chose one from 1936, 1942, and August 1945. My reason for doing that was to see the topics in America that people were interested in and reading. My choice of magazines was to reveal citizen worries and problems pre WWII in 1936, and then 1942 right after we entered the war in late December 1941, and then August 1945 which was before the European war was won in April , but the Pacific war was still being fought until August 1945. Sara, I love old jars too but haven't focused on developing beyond about three. However, I do love the ones I have and they live in my kitchen which has a 1930s-40s vibe.
Thanks to all the farm girls who are sharing some of their collections and the stories behind them.

Posted - May 16 2025 : 06:50:46 AM Sara, I share in your love of jars! I keep just about any and all jars I can find to store pantry staples in, for canning, for craft supplies. The odder the better. I just found a couple someone was going to get rid of and she passed them on to me. I never thought of using my pie safe to store them in. Great idea!

Posted - May 14 2025 : 3:17:56 PM Debbie, I have several vintage jars that I matched up with vintage lids I found in junk or antique shops. Forty years ago on Saturdays I hunted shops, garage sales, and estate sales for vintage kitchen items.
Hang on to your glass lid they are hard to come by, so are any lid that has its paint & lettering still intact.

Posted - May 14 2025 : 2:08:03 PM Hi Sara, I wanted to share with you a couple of my very old jars, I keep mainly buttons in my old jars.

The small one has a Hellman’s Mayonnaise Products lids. The bottom says Wrights Mayonnaise Products, Reg. I apparently married the jar and lid, they are from the 1930’s -1940’s I believe.

The other is a large Refrigerator and Pantry Jar with 101 uses. This is a set, the lid and jar go together. The side of the lid says Burleson’s Honey. Like you I love my old jars. I too have a very old Pie Safe from Germany. My husband is repairing it and putting on new screen. It came in our shipment of household goods in pieces many years ago. So for a few years or more :-) he is lovingly repairing it. I will be so happy when it is finished.

Posted - May 14 2025 : 1:27:21 PM Sara, I have never heard of coconut peaches before. They sound amazing! We do not have an Aldi in Utah, but I will have to see if another store sells something similar.

Posted - May 13 2025 : 08:13:46 AM Jeanette, a pie safe is a cabinet or hutch that has screen or perforated tin doors. In days gone past it was used to store pies, butter, jams, etc to keep them from flies.

Anything looks sooooo pretty in a jar-why hide pretty things?! ~Sara, I must say that I am drawn to anything made in a jar as it is a two-fold purchase! Flavoured peaches in a jar??? Where do you get them from? Coconut and peaches would be sublime :0)

Posted - May 12 2025 : 3:28:36 PM Well, I ordered another peaches in a jar and this time it was ginger flavored with a yellow lid. Same cute little jar but with a yellow lid that you all know I will just have to keep, so a jar on the shelf must go but the yellow lid jar will be worth it. Next time I am thinking about ordering the coconut flavored peaches, I wonder what color lid it will have.
