We went to Kentucky for a church homecoming, and took some time to check out properties near Irvine that we saw on Zillow. Somehow our GPS got confused in the mountains, but we found the property I had my eye on purely by accident. It is everything that I want - a view, quiet, and a small house. The only problem is that we aren't ready to retire for anot her couple years, and can't afford two mortgages. I hope the LORD will keep it for us!

Every year our Soil Conservation office offers a backyard garden project grant that partially reimburses gardeners who put in beehives, compost bins, water gardens, water barrels or other type of projects. This year they approved my garden arch project.
My sweetie bought the cattle panels, t posts and wire clips. Last night I tried hammering the posts with a sledgehammer, and although it worked, my elbow was sore. This morning I bought a post setter and the rest went in easily. The panels were a bit unwieldy but I wrassled them in place and secured them to the posts, learning as I went.
While I was at it, I planted regular beans, asparagus beans, onions and tomatoes, and a bunch of flowers seeds in the pollinator plot. It will rain the rest of the week.
Wuff! I'm tuckered out!

Cooking with wine tonight! I'm making Roast Pork with garlic and Rosemary from How to Cook Everything by Mark Bittman.
It's my go-to cookbook for most recipes.I may imbibe a bit later.

That sounds good too!
For Easter dinner we had Honeybaked ham, smoked trout (made by our German student), Hasselbeck potatoes, baked beans, spinach salad with tomatoes, carrots and cucumber with a homemade dressing, and carrot cake (by our German student). As my brother in law Larry would say "I'm as full as a tick."
And my white lilac started blooming.

It's a sunny warm day so I expanded the dog compound. Unfortunately Rose found the small break in the fence and is now roaming free.

Ah yes, rainy days are good times
For bringing out excellent rhymes.
Your remarks are so kind
But I worry you'll find
Them annoying, like Parisian mimes.

The sun did not shine
It was too wet to play.
So I cooked with wine
And made lasagna today.

And while it is baking I clean up the mess
Cause they don't clean like I do- or do I obsess?
If there's crud on the pans that only I see, I can't get upset cause the cleaner I'd me.
I must really stop; I've had two cups of wine
For the rest of the night I will talk in limericks.

Yesterday we expected bad weather, but during the day it was decent. I'd set myself the task of clearing out the foodstuffs my son left in the pantry and fridges when he moved out. I took out 3 garbage bags full of hot sauces and such, recycled when I could, and cleaned the insides.
Then in a spring cleaning mood, I began sweeping and moving furniture around. This used to be my mother-in-law's apartment and I wanted a change so the exchange students can have friends over.
Then I set up my sewing machine and added binding to a quilt. Then went to see the high school stuents in Mamma Mia! Whew! I fell asleep during Svengoolie.

Oh,good news about his knee! Be careful with the chopper!

Audra Rose Posted - Feb 12 2025 : 5:19:03 PM

My sweetie, the gadget guru, got himself a chopper/slicer and tried to use it for the first time tonight with a tomato. As you can see, there was an injury. He'd already gotten his knee worked on this morning, and did not have as much pain (or bleeding).

We got to Frankfort early before our candy factory tour, so made a detour to Daniel Boone's grave above the city.
