Hi girls, just wanted to update you . My husband is having surgery on Tues. Dr. said they dont know now what the lump is, could be anything from a tumor to infected tissue. They wont know until they get in there. Our spirits are high. I dont know if I will get back on here or not before Tues. I will try though, I love it here. Just keep him in yout thoughts & prayers as I know you will. Thank you all so much for all your support. Michele

Hi michele,

So pleased you guys are thru the surgery, and on the road upwards again. Take good care of yourself too, we are all behind ya and helping you girl, but we all promise to shut or eyes when you do the bath thing.:) Hugs
showmemom Posted - Aug 20 2005 : 07:33:24 AM
hey michele-

give ed a big hug from all of us and save one for yourself!

he's very fortunate to have someone like you to care for him. all of us nurses have seen people with zero family or family that was too "busy" to care for them-you deserve much chocolate!!

all of that nursing stuff gets better with practice-you can do it!

and i agree with susan-i really like the picture of us surrounding you and ed in a big, hand-holding circle of love and support. count me in as one of the circle.

talk to you soon.

Hang in there (((Michele)))), it's scary at first but soon you'll be doing whatever needs to be done without a second thought! I'm so squemish that no one thought I'd ever be able to care for my hubby after he was severely injured and finally released from the hospital. The nurses showed me how to give him the daily care needed and though I was shaking at first and near tears I kept at it and within no time had it down to a regular routine.
Hubby also snapped at me a few times while in the hospital too and I remember going off alone late one night to shed some tears. Hospitals are major stressers for many people and can bring out the worst in anyone. I know hubby didn't mean to hurt me but he was overwrought with frustration from not being in control of his own body and I was super sensitive due to lack of sleep along with overabundance of stress.

Tears and prayers often bring a much needed feeling of comfort and peace during times like these. We're all here for you and Ed, take comfort in knowing that you both are in our thoughts and prayers! ((((Hugs))))

Michele, thanks for being so open about all of this. I'm trying to picture giving my 240 lb husband a bath. That has to be awkward. What a trial the two of you have been through. You're always close in my thoughts.

Hi girls, He's home. The visiting nurse came today to SHOW ME how to do these procedures. If I make a mistake I could hurt him. We have to do it for 6 weeks! This picc line goes to his heart so the meds get into his body faster. Im a wreck. I know I will get used to it. Dont know how much I'll be online, very busy. Im about to give my 220lb husband a bath! I do feel very blessed and im extremely gratful he's home. I will find humor in all this, especially while Im rolling him over. Thanks again everyone. Talk to you all as soon as I can. Michele

Boy, I understand.
He's frustrated and takes it out on who's ever close which happens to be you.
I know it hard to bite the tongue, because it hurts.
I hate to say it, But I know I've done the same to my hubby when I was ill.
I'm sure he'll be better at home.

Hi, he had a picc put in today, it goes from his vein to his heart. It carries the medicine to his heart faster. The staff infection is pretty bad. A nurse will come when he gets home to help us w/ it & then I'll do it,you have to flush & clean the opening of the tube. Hospitals are very draining. He got a bit grumpy today & took it out on me. I had all I could do but I bit my tongue, walked around the corner had a good cry (been holding it in) then a few minutes later our pastor came. We were better. I usually say whatever is on my mind to him but he's been through alot and I just didnt want to upset him. He apoligized later, he just wants to come home. Michele

I'm so glad that part is over for you both-how scary to have complications like that.

i agree w/Meadowlark about handwashing. i emphasize that so much in my nursing classes i'm surprised my students don't come away with it tattooed on their foreheads!!

let us know how things are going as you can. try to rest and eat something. sending you lots of love and prayers for strength.

talk to you soon.

That is good news Michele! Will continue to pray for his recovery and return to full health! Keep yourself healthy too Michele! This hospital duty can be very draining! Eat well and regular, and try to get as much shut eye as you can! Will Ed be in the hospital very long? Can you get a friend or family member to spell you a while so you can get a little sleep? Keep your immune system healthy too! This may sound silly but washing hands before seeing Ed in the room and after you leave can really help keep the bugs away. Take care and we care... Jenny

Me too!
Hint: (kind of tongue-in-cheek) While you're waiting, count the tiles on the floor! or take an old magazine along and fold the upper right hand corner to the center, then the bottom right hand corner halfway to the center. Do this for each page, spray paint when you get home and you've got a birdhouse of sorts! or take a tweezer and pull the hairs on your legs one by one! (Yes, I have actually witnessed each of these waiting for my uncle's surgeries to be completed.) Ultimately remember you have a whole heap of farmgirls (and guys) offering up positive thoughts and prayers!

If it's not illegal, unsafe, or immoral, why not try anything once? Who knows? You may come back for a second helping!

My prayers are headin North too...some hospitals offer a computer in the surgery waiting rooms..ask. You never know, you might be able to "get a fix" while you are there and distract yourself. Good luck Hon.
